Clothing is relatively cheap (compared to the UK), so don't take huge amounts of clothes with you, they have a better range of sunwear there. Beautiful light, make sure if your using an SLR to fit a polarizer, it will intensify the lovely blue skies out there.

If you are going to be studying abroad try to pack as reasonably as possible. Good sturdy luggage is a MUST. Be sure to lock all luggage as well. Also, be sure to have extra clothes, etc. in your carry on in case your luggage doesn't make it(and that is not uncommon for it to come several days after arrival); however keep your carry-on to a minimum- you have to hold on to it for a long time, and it tends to become a pain. Pack the things that you would normally wear at home, things are not that differnt in Australia. Try not to over pack- remember you will be buying things there as well. You especially need good walking shoes, thongs(as in sandles), bathing suits, tank tops, tee- shirts, rain gear, shorts, pants, and dress clothes. If you take medicine on a regular basis be sure to get a prescription from your doctor that can be filling before you leave and will last you your entire...

Make sure you travel light (there are a lot of laundry facilities) and bring a bag you can carry easily. Make sure you have clothes for every type of weather in Australia. And of course don't forget good walking shoes (with good profile and high ankles). Very important is a good sun lotion with a high protection factor. Additional batteries for your photo camera (you don't know when your batteries will be empty).

If you are visiting Australia's Red Centre you must take or buy a net to wear over your hat and head. The flies, although harmless, can be extremely iritating indeed as they particularly like your eyes, nose and mouth. These nets are available in the airport at Alice Springs and we also saw them (cheaper) at a petrol station. Trust me - after a few minutes out doors without one you'll be willing to pay anything to get hold of one.

Pack light- if you're traveling on the Green Back, everything is cheaper to buy in OZ. The water is COLD in the south - so buy, bring or borrow a wetsuit. OZ is first world- you can get everything there- including Kangaroo tail. They can even develop APS film. Take a tent or buy one there. Great camping.

NOT MUCH IS NEEDED TOILET PAER FOR THOSE SPECIAL TIMES WHEN SQATTING IS QUITE NESSASARY.INSECT REPALENT. KEEP ALL THOSE MOSQITOS AWAY. GOOD CAMERA ... BUT ALWAYS KEEP YOUR EYE OUT FOR THIEFS BATHERS AND A TOWEL. SUNNIES AND ALWAYS LOOK FOR THE SAFE AERAS TO SWIM. IN WEST OZ THE BEACHES ARE SO POWERFUL I SEEN A LDY DROWN IN A BLUE HOLE. THERE ARE ALWAYS SURF GAURDS. AND SWIM BETWEEN THE FLAGS. DONT FORGET TO SLIP SLOP SLAP.

GOOD WALKING SHOES!!!! Sydney's a city made for walking man!. You can walk everywhere and love every minute of it. MOISTURISE, MOISTURISE AND MOISTURISE!!! My skin was cracking like an overbaked pie!!! even in winter! actually, is it especially in winter?.... bring so much film. there's so much beauty here. this is a gorgeous city. developing photos here is reasonably cheap too, if you want to know.

Anything will do, you'll want something to hold your stuff when going to beaches and stuff. It's hot as hell in the summer (our winter for us northern hemisphere people), and you'll need sunscreen and light colored clothes. I would doubt you'd ever need pants in the summer. There's a lot to photograph in Australia, lots of wildlife and beaches. Watch out for dull colors on some of the beaches in the mid-day sun.

SUNBLOCK!!! Australia has one of the highest skin cancer rates in the world. It is my understanding that there is a major hole over the ozone above Oz. Take this news seriously, skin cancer is on the rise, and it can be lethal. Protect yourself so you can have fun! I understand that the mega cosmetic giants, eg. Dior, Lancome, etc., are extremely expensive Down Under, so if you need cover up, bring it from home.
