Star of Siam: Delicious Thai Food

by Robachu1

An attractive restaurant located on the main street in Port Douglas, Macrossan Street. Diners can choose to be seated inside or outside. The view of cars on Macrossan St. leaves a little to be desired but the food is as good as any I've tasted outside of Thailand itself. The Shrimp Pad Thai and the Red Shrimp Curry were delicious.

Nautilus Restaurant: Elegant Dining in a Totally Lush Tropical Setting

by Robachu1

Once you enter the restaurant and catch a glimpse of the patio you feel like you've entered another world. Though you're only a short distance from the center of Port Douglas, you find yourself surrounded by the Australian rainforest with all its beauty. First we were seated in a small waiting area where we were able to enjoy champagne and tropical style cocktails. We continued our outdoor tropical dining experience with a wonderful meal. For our entre we ordered a taster's platter and an order of tiger prawns. Our mains consisted of a whole coral trout and a crispy skinned duck.It was our first experience with a deep fried whole coral trout (nothing like the rainbow trout I'm accustomed to) and were pleasantly surprised by the taste of the wonderful white meat of the fish.

Thai Panic, in Oxford Street,...

by Weener

Thai Panic, in Oxford Street, Sydney, NSW. My favourite restaurant in the world. This restaurant introduced me to Thai food. The menu is fantastic, and so cheap! The best thing about the restaurant is the location. If you get a good table by the path, you can sit and people watch all night. Its fantastic. If I had the money, I would go back just to go here!UPDATE SUMMER 2003, Guess what .. its closed down :(

Jetty Street: Adelaide

by iandsmith

As with all Australian cities, Adelaide has its restaurant street, in this case Jetty Street in Glenelg, a splendid suburb by the sea.Block after block of culinary delights await, with probably a leaning towards Italian but you will find an eclectic mix as you peruse the fare from the footpath before making up your mind. You won't be disappointed if you're an ice cream freak either, at one point there are four within 100 metres of each other.Should you be staying in the city you can conveniently catch the tram (the only one in Adelaide) whose final stop is right in Jetty Street. In fact, it takes you right down the middle of the street!

Northbridge: An eclectic mix

by iandsmith

If you're dining out in Perth, you should come home satisfied. Most of the restaurants are good quality or better. The most popular place for dining is the inner city suburb of Northbridge where there are about five blocks of almost wall-to-wall restaurants. You can try Italian, Greek, Lebanese, several types of Asian and many more that I can't remember. It's very cosmopolitan here and there is a bustle about the place late into the night as there are some nightclubs (not all of the family kind) sprinkled among the eating houses as well.

More choices than ever before

by RuthLuvsPaul

My favourite restaurant changes every few months due to the fact that I always want to try something different. If you're in the city of Launceston, here are some suggestions:Italian: Franco's, La Cantina.Mexican: Prickly Cactus.Chinese: Fu Wah, Dynasty.Thai: Star of Siam.Seafood: Waterfront.Food hall: Morty's.Best service cafe: Pierre's.Japanese: The Sushi Shack.Indian: Tandoor & Curry House.Quick lunch service: Konditorei Manfred.Atmosphere: any of the Seaport restaurants I could never choose!

Beaumont Street, Hamilton...

by iandsmith

Beaumont Street, Hamilton (Newcastle)So it's a street in Newcastle, but, in that street are over 50 restaurants. You can choose Brazilian, Italian, Lebanese, African, Chinese, Thai, Turkish, Greek, English, American and even Australian all in 5 blocks. You can find similar set ups in Sydney (Neutral Bay springs readily to mind) and Melbourne (Lygon Street is famous down there) as Australia has a very eclectic mix of food and so many fresh ingredients. The best, freshest and most mouth watering food I have had consistently in Australia though, was in Tasmania!Newcastle, at the last census, had just under 4,000 restaurants. In my experience, most serve good quality food and I can still count the duds on one hand. Go ahead, gorge yourself! Just about any lamb dish. If you have never had Australian roast leg of lamb then your culinary life experience is, as yet, unfulfilled.

Oscars: devine Pizza!!!

by Jordie

Oscars is a small resturant in the heart of Mclaren Vale, South Australia and specialises in gormet pizza's using the freshest ingredients and a yummy base! They have other things on the menu like chicken, steak etc.. but their pizza's are to die for! They have a local wine selection which is complementary to the dishes avaliable. The restaurant itself comprises of 2 main rooms with a verandah closed in with clear blinds for dining in the winter. It has a warm homely feel to and the service is excellent! I've tried all the pizza's (on seperate occasions that is) and they are all yummy!

Anywhere, Australia: Food courts!

by smoox

I just loved the Australian food courts - you will find them in any larger city. In smaller places, however, there's always a place to eat ('hotel') and to meet folks! ..........is certainly NOT any dish made from CROC - and as far as that goes, I am not very keen on all of that other exotic stuff either. Just give me some grilled barramundi. Delicious! Believe me, I'm not much of a fish-eather otherwise....

Try Harry's Meat Pies!

by pilgrim55

Harry's is world famous for his great meat pies. They are delicious and very reasonably priced. We came across them when walking from Pott's Point to the Botanical Gardens on our way to the Sydney Opera House. The bus runs right by there too!
