The Ozcall Card: Save money on international phone calls I

by 850prc

The cheapest and most dependable way to call overseas from Australia is to get your hands on an international calling card. There are quite a few available, and they're pretty similar. But, there are some subtle differences, usually involving connect fees and such. You can buy these things almost anywhere.....markets, hotel lobbies, petrol stations. As for WHICH one to buy, just tell the person working the counter EXACTLY what you want to use it for.... "I want to call America/Europe, etc." They'll know best. One little bit of advice concerning access numbers.... you'd like to get a card that has LOCAL access numbers for wherever you're traveling in Oz. Otherwise, you'll have to use the long distance number, or the toll free long distance number, and you'll be charged a premium amount on the card. Each card has a list of local access numbers on the back. ASK FOR A LIST OF ADDITIONAL...

It is my favourite time of day, when the Currawong birds begin to call out across the hollow lowlands. Eve comes back with tea and metions that she has an old caravan down on the bottom edge of her property that she no longer uses but just stores all the rave and dance party gear in. We walk down through the thick bush with scissors and a knife. Inside the caravan we cut all...

Dunn's Leather Goods, Camberwell and Supa Bargains: Buy little toys for kids!

by christinaa

Dunn's Leather Goods at Camberwell has mini chandeliers, old-style telephones, etc. and so does Supa Bargains at Box Hill Centro. They have mini magnet toys for $ 2 each, but you could get 3 toy magnets (super) for just $ 5. That's a bargain! Toys, language-learning books, music cassettes, boomerangs, flags, chocolates, etc. from various stores. In all, you could expect to spend AUD 2000 - everything taken together! Around AU $ 2000

Purchase at any grocery store: Yummmmmmm! Tim Tams!

by swings

It isn't the shop that's important, it's the chocolate fix! Just go to any grocery store or shop that sells Arnott's cookies! Buy Arnott's Tim Tam biscuits (cookies)! The company describes them as "the most irresistible chocolate biscuit", and I have to agree with that, in any of their several flavors! Another good product that I just tried yesterday is their Quatro Hazelnut Delight biscuit. Heavenly! Get your chocolate fix with one of these products.... ;) They are only about $2-3 per package.

Blinky Bill

by keeweechic

Blinky Bill is Australia’s cheeky little koala. He was created by Dorothy Wall and has become one the best loved fictional characters to Australian children. There have been many many books written on Blinky Bills adventures amongst the gum trees and with his friends and if you are looking for something uniquely Australia for a young person, this is ideal. There are also videos out as well.

Buy Opals in Adelaide

by AKtravelers

Opals are mined in the outback north of Adelaide, so this beautiful city is the best place to look for deals. Be sure to do your research on opals before going to Australia -- there are doublets, triplets and other types. Furthermore, opals are very fragile -- expect to buy jewelry for a special occassion rather than the rigors of everyday use. The part I liked best about opal shopping was taking a break in the outdorr cafes of Adelaide.

The Queen Victoria Building in Sydney

by Paul2001

It has been called by Pierre Cardin "the most beautiful shopping centre in the world" and whom am I to argue. This is a stunning shopping arcade unlike anything that I have seen in the "New World" countries. The arcade was built in 1898 over what was at onetime the Sydney Markets. Throughout the last century it was used for various purposes such as municipal offices and market hall. Not until 1984 was it turned into the shopping centure that it is today. The building features wonderful woodened railings, a great overhead clock and antique elevators. Within the arcade itself are over 200 shops. The shops are open from 9am to 6pm from Monday to Saturday. They stay open until 9pm on Thursday. On Sunday they are open from 11am to 5pm. There was no Sunday shopping in Sydney during my visit in 1987 so I feel ripped off. Opals galore here. Lots of quality shops that will satisify all tastes.

Fremantle Shopping

by keeweechic

Probably the best known place to shop would have to be the Fremantle Market. This is a very popular market at the weekend. The original building was opened in 1897 and has some quite ornate designs from the gold rush era of that time. There are always buskers both inside and out performing. They are only allowed limited time before the next artist is allowed the spot. You will find lots of arts and crafts, food, fresh produce, clothing and pretty much anything you can imagine. Lots of smells, sights and sounds.Open Fri 9 - 9 Sat, 9 - 5 Sun 11 - 5Address: South Terrace & Henderson Street___________________________________There are a number of stores selling Aboriginal art and instruments especially around the streets near the Round House. The Didgeridoo`s are the wind instruments of the Aboriginal people. While there are the usual chain stores and a shopping mall, Fremantle is more about...
