QVB and the Strand Arcade: "The most beautiful shopping centre in the world"

by iandsmith

You go for the buildings alone. The Queen VIctoria Building takes up a whole block of Sydney's CBD with wondrous sandstone. The quote at the opening comes from Pierre Cardin, so it must be alright!Completely renovated as to render its original use as a storehouse unrecognizable, this really is a thing of beauty. The other place you should go is the Strand Arcade, an intimate, ornate place, to marvel at the original features (such as wrought iron and tiles). It's my personal favourite. The QVB shops tend to be towards the expensive side of things, obviously due the the rents they have to pay, but don't let that deter you from looking.

This is not much of a good place to shop in my opinion, but it's nice to take a look at the history the building breaths.

Spoilt for choice...

by TracyG

Melbourne has the most amazing variety of shops in a very relaxed atmosphere. You can buy anything in Melbourne, but electrical items are generally cheaper than you would pay back home.
