Tennis by Sweetberry1 Tennis is another sport that is very popular in Australia. Whether it's watching the big names thrash it out at the Tennis Center, or playing it yourself. I used to play tennis... nothing like it for keeping you fit.. Leave a Comment Theme: Sports Watching

Diving at the Great Barrier Reef by tini58de The Great Barrier Reef is just an open invitation to go scuba diving! It is an awesome place!!! You can book special diving tours with local operators, or you can even go diving on a boat trip to the reef, as we did. We went out to the reef and then we were asked, if we wanted to go diving (for certified divers), if we wanted to try to dive (for beginners), if we wanted to go snorkeling or go on a glass bottom boat. All of it was a lot of fun! In the web I found an interesting site about diving for the handicapped, so I am including that website on this page. Leave a Comment

by chris_i79 You should try to see a game of Australian Football in person. You can either see Aussie Rules (AFL), Rugby League or Rugby Union. Most major cities will have professional teams (especially Victoria where they are known too be fanatics about the sport). Leave a Comment Theme: Other

kanguroos by tini58de These vistors at the 9th green made playing golf a little more difficult!!! The owner of the golf course pointed out to us, that at the 9th green there were always many kanguroos and that some golfers were rather trying to hit them instead of putting the ball in the hole...! You can not come to Australia and not head out into the Great Barrier Reef to go diving/snorkelling. The amount of sealife is incredible.
All equipment can be hired locally. Leave a Comment Theme: Scuba DivingDirections: Cairns is the gateway to the Great barrier Reef.

Starting blocks at Merewether Baths by iandsmith Along the Aussie coastline, particularly in N.S.W. there are ocean baths. They cost nothing to swim in, are run by the local councils and are very popular in summer. This particular one is at Merewether in my home town, Newcastle, and is seen at a time when the swell was moderate and the tide high. Sometimes the younger amongst us will go and play where the sea meets the pool for a bit of adventurous fun but generally the baths are a benign place with plenty of room to stretch your arms and stroke away. Take your pick by iandsmith Yes, that is exactly what this sign is all about. The hoarding at the eastern end of the D'Albora Marina at Nelson Bay is a feast for those who want to partake in water borne activities. There's dolphin and whale watching, fishing, kayaking, cruises, paddle boats for the kiddies or just plain old hire boats. So many to choose from, so little time. If you want to surf, parasail or windsurf, Post Stephens has it all. They advertise the place as "Blue Water Wonderland". The only amazing thing is that so relatively few people go here (compared to say Surfers Paradise). It is always in my top ten places of "must see" things in Australia.
You can jump aboard with others, hire it for yourself or fly in the sky. All you really need is a pair of swimmers (maybe) and some suntan oil. It's that simple. Leave a Comment Theme: Boating/SailingAddress: D'Albora Marina, Nelson Bay

Climbing Sydney Bridge by SirRichard Aussies have rather weird but funny sport: climbing bridges. The most famous is the Sydney Bay Bridge climbing, but there are climbing experiences in Brisbane and other places. You only have to be in reasonable fit and don't suffer "vertigo". I didn't do it myself, as it was a bit out of my budget (over 100 AUS $) but seemed thrilling and exciting. No Bungee Jumping allowed, sorry. :-) Leave a Comment Theme: Climbing
