    Ballina Library

Favorite thing: The Ballina Library is a modern building close to the Tourist Information centre.
The Library has a FREE INTERNET service, but you must make a prior booking for a place at the Computer.
Also very handy, is the photo copying service.
One time when I was overseas, I needed to print out a ticket on a weekend, I found everything closed or didn't do photo copies!
Of course, there are plenty of books, magazines, newspapers and other information available.

    Surf beaches

    Storm surf at Sharpe

Favorite thing: The beaches to the east of Ballina are good, even by Australia's exceptional standards. No visit to the area is complete without trying the surf at Lighthouse Beach, Shelly Beach and/or Angels Beach. They all stand in sharp contrast to the urban quality of the town centre. Here the Pacific Ocean breaks on beautiful sandy beaches and there are nearly always ideal surfing conditions.
Further north you're liable to find quality breaks at Sharpe's Beach and, of course, the next one north which is the legendary Lennox Head.

Fondest memory: Sharpe's is also a great spot to go birdwatching with boardwalks through the heath land just beyond the sands. See pics 4 and 5.
