    Cocomangas: Backpackers bar

by didgeridorien Written Mar 8, 2006

You can get a cheap meal here and after that you can dance all night. They've got special tables you can dance on and there are games for drunk backpackers all night. If you come late, you may even find a line outside.

    Cheeky Monkeys: On the tables

    by anders1975 Written Oct 14, 2005

This is a crazy place where people dance on the tables. This nightclub is packed with backpackers and young people out for a night's fun. Lot's of competitions with prizes from the bar and special prices before 9pm. Wouldn't recommend the dinner though, even though you only have to pay from 2 AUD for some beef or pasta meal...
This place is good for people watching. Smoking is permitted inside after 10pm.
If you're looking for a more stylish place, Cheeky Monkeys' not it.

Dress Code: Informal. Come as you are - or wear less.

Cheeky Monkey: Dancing on the tables

by sunburntaussie Written Apr 8, 2005

Crazy crazy place! There's always loads of competitions and everynight they kick off the plates and dance on tables. This place rocks.

Loads of locals and travellors go to this place so it's always really busy. They serve food up until a certain time (I think it's 9pm) and the rest of night is spent on games and drinking.

It's absolutely crazy but don't leave Byron without having a night out at this place. If you can only go to one club - this is the one!

    Cheeky Monkeys: Cheeky Monkeys!

    A Cheeky flyer

Backpackers bar serving cheap meals (around $6) earlier on in the evening then music, dancing on tables and lots of beer. The dancefloor litterally was the tables and benches so be careful because obviously after a few beers balance and co-ordination are in short supply and waking up stiff and covered in bruises is quite likely!
Fun and lively atmosphere as in most backpacker bars, the foods alright and its cheap which is good enough for most of us!! The usual music, friendly staff and all round a good night. Open til 3am.

Dress Code: Aimed at backpackers so no dress code.

    Partying at Cheeky Monkey's

Cheeky Monkeys is probably the only place to go to in Byron Bay. There are 1-2 more..but, this is the only one worth the mention. Entrnce is free if you get a stamp at your hostel...eg. Aquarius Backpackers...It is a restaurant cum pub by the day and all the tables get converted into a dance floor by the night. It is awesome, packed, good crowd and good fun.

Dress Code: Smart Casuals..its a beachy town...anything goes.

  • Johnson Street: Main Street Byron Bay...

by lachydragon Updated Jan 20, 2003

During the summer when the sun goes down the main street of Byron Bay gets even busier! Once the shops have closed the market traders set up illegal stores in the entranceways of the shops selling beads, tie-die wraps - all the stuff you would see in the markets. Basically the street becomes a night-market and then you have the buskers playing music and all the restaurants. Added to that is the park on Main Beach where you can always find a group of buskers playing bongo drums or doing some fire-dancing and the Beach Hotel across the road will be packed and has such a great easygoing beachside vibe.

There are of course nightclubs too but I didn't visit them, I was content just to wander the main street and enjoy the street activity.

    Great Northern Hotel

This venue happens to pull an unbelievable amount of international touring and Australian bands. I think that bands like to play here just to have a stay over in Byron.
