Throughout NSW, you will find licensed clubs run by community groups, such as the Ex-Services Clubs and Bowling Clubs. If you are a traveller, they are an excellent choice for good inexpensive meals, a pleasant drink, and a chance to meet locals. For those interested, they also have gaming rooms with poker machines. You do need to be a bona-fide traveller though, and when you enter you will be required to fill out a temporary visitor permit, such as that in the first photo. On our arrival in Coffs, we headed for the Ex-Services Club, because we had arranged to meet my VT friends Carole (Unravelau) and Nettie (Tapis Volant) there. They proved to be very pleasant people who were far more real than virtual, and we had a delightful time talking to them. They also gave us a lovely welcome card (second photo) The Club later served us some quite acceptable meals in its restaurant, though getting a table proved problematical because a show in town had brought many extra patrons for a full evening out. I expect that would not normally be a problem - and, from time to time, clubs such as this have entertainment of their own.
Casual is the way to go, but not to the stage of beachwear and thongs. Theme: OtherAddress: Vernon Street, Coffs HarbourPhone: 02 6652 3888Directions: The Club is easy to find - it's one of the largest buildings in Coffs, just off the Pacific Highway.

Carnival at Christmas and New Year. by unravelau Not only for the family but I have spotted many young lovers and grannies and pops as well. Entertainment for all, day and night is available at this venue. The area is used for the whole of the Christmas New Year break by this same group every year. Other organisations bring their big tops to entertain us at other times. Circuses and live shows of all types appear virtually overnight.......do their days or nights and then give way again to the helicopter rides, kite flying, lets have a spin on a harley etc. All great fun.
Come as you are to all of these activities I guess. Maybe wear something a little more spiffy if the seats cost you over $100 as in the case of the up and coming John Farnham show. Coffs Harbour's ex Services Club is usually the all in one destination for weekend night fun. Take last Friday for instance (6th Oct 2006). I met up withTiabunna (aka George) and his wife Pauline at the Club for a chat and a meal. Little did we know [this is what happens when you (meaning me) doesn't keep abreast of things] but Leo Sayer was also 'at the club'. My first awareness was when brushed past this person and I saw this familiar face - none other than Leo Sayer Ohhhhh. This meant that the dining room was horribly busy and were taking bookings, promising to let us know when a table would be available...... They didn't let us know and it wasn't until an hour later that George, just about fainting from hunger, went to check and found that we could indeed eat then. We did have a lovely time over a few drinks and getting to know one another. We enjoyed our dinner and George and I enjoyed a bottle of what turned out to be a favourite wine of both he and I....you guessed it. The meal, wine (among other liquid refreshments), chat and meeting was simply lovely and we took our leave of one another after 10...... They, George and Pauline were to head off North to meet up with more vters the next morning after a quick look at the Dutch ship (The Duyfken) in the harbour and I was heading north to Dreamworld with family.......obviously the right place for me. LOL
The Club requires that patrons wear a shirt (not singlet) after a certain time, and proper shoes, (no thongs). Apart from these restrictions, its pretty much come as you are or dress up if you like. by BerniShand our dear friend Carole VT member unravelau brought us here for an evening out, it is a lovely club and the facilities are excellent we had supper in the Bunkers Bistro where huge portions are really inexpensive and very good, then we had the choice of putting our holiday spending money into the gaming machines or `pokies` as they are called in Australia, dancing the night away to live music, or finding a quiet spot for a good chat of course we chose the quiet spot, though we laughed a lot and livened up our little corner it was a great night out, not only because of the club, it was the company that made it special its a very smart clean friendly club, you do however need to be signed in by a member
smart casual or dressy its up to you Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Vernon StreetPhone: 02 6652 3888
