Walk the Coastal Walk
Liz and I decided we wanted to do the Coastal Walk from Bondi to Coogee. We both love the ocean and heard the views along this walk were unsurpassed. We began our walk in Bondi on the Promenade. We climed up the hills and looked down upon the beach and the crashing surf; absolutely beautiful.
We then continued along the path to Mackenzies Point. Here was a beautiful lookout point with water all around. We continued walking and the path went downhill to Tamarama. Tamarama is a small beach with some cafe if you want to catch a bite or a drink. We had our water and decided to walk on. Our next stop was Bronte Beach which is really beautiful. Just past Bronte is Waverly and the huge Waverly Cemetery. As we walked along the cliff(many yards away) we were able to see the headstones, monuments and crosses jutting out from the cliff; erie but beautiful. Clovelly is a small beach that is very sheltered it almost seems like a pond; no waves. Gordon's Bay right past the beach was very deserted except for a lone man snorkeling. Our final stop on our walk was Coogee. Coogee is a nice sized beach with plenty of shopping and restaurants. This was our final stop on our 2 1/2 hour walk.
The walk was absolutely beautiful; we saw such amazing sights and met some fun people along the way.
**Dress appropriately for walking; some areas are quite steep and the walk is very long. Bring and umbrella and plenty of water. We got drizzled on a bit at the end of our walk.**
Bus from Bondi Junction
If you're not up to the big Coastal Walk we took from Bondi; a bus is a good option. We took the bus from Coogee to Bondi Junction in order to catch a train back to Circular Quay; instead of walking back to Bondi after it started to rain rather heavily.
Ok.. The easiest way to get to coogee is on the blue STAt buses. Thes buses have numbers on the top which tell you which route they go on.
373 Goes to Ciruclar Quay and return - during the day they run about every 20 minutes and they run every hour all night. if you want to go to oxford st or the central sydney shopping centre (pitt st) catch this bus. They are a safe way to get home in the middle of the night.
372 - Goes to Central station - about every 20 minutes during the day. this does not run all night I think it finnished about 11pm or so.
374 - Runs from circular quay to central station to north Coogee, not sure how regular it is.
313 - Coogee to Bondi junction - Goes on the hour from coogee, and on the 1/2 hour form bondi. Only runs during the day, but it is the quickest way to get to bondi - it only takes about 10-15 minutes.
How to get to the air-port - go to Randwick and catch this the 400. NOTE NOT ALL 400 BUSES GO TO THE AIRPORT. check the sign on top and make sure it says either Airport or Rockdale or Burwood. NOT East Gardens
How to buy tickets - You can buy at ticket from the driver as you get on the bus or buy a multi trip or weekly ticket from a newsagent. Prices depend on the distance you are travelling. BLue travel 10 (coogee-randwick) - short distances Brown travel 10, medium distances (ie coogee-city) - $27, Blue weekly - about $32
