The Bali Memorial in Cronulla honors the seven people from the area who were killed in the Bali Bombing in 2002. The memorial sculpture is called the Seed. The sculpture represents the Bansia robur; a local plant of the area. Two plaques have the names of the seven victims, their ages and details of the event. The Bali Bombing really affected this...more
Cronulla Plaza is the pedestrian shopping area on Cronulla Street. Here there are plenty of shops, restuarants and cafe. Cronulla is definitely a laid back beach town that loves to relax; which is evident in their many outdoor cafe's.Liz and I enjoyed shopping in some of the unsuual shops in the area and found some real bargains. Several of the...more
seemingly endless miles of beach stretch north from Cronulla, becoming Wanda Beach and stretching to the distant horizon. Wanda and Cronulla Beaches are great places to get away from the busy Sydney Beaches and catch a wave, walk for miles, take a swim or just read a book. For me its a place i often escape to. I'm not exactly sure why, but Cronulla...more
Montien Tong is a small Thai/Asian restaurant. It was recommended to us by several locals so we had to try it for ourselves. The restaurant has a small take away area at the front selling prepared foods for the lunch/dinner crowd. We decided to have a sit down meal and eat inside. The waitress brought us menus along with water. Liz and I decided on...more
JD's is a local pub in Cronulla. We met up with Laura and some of her friends for their Thursday night meal at JD's. Thursday nights there are pub specials that range between $10-$11 dollars for some really good items such as steak and S&P squid. The pub is filled with locals since it is a bit off the beaten path for the tourist set. After checking...more
Northies is the local "pub" as Laura called it. It is not what we would consider a pub...it's more like a nightclub/danceclub with live music and some gambling thrown in for good measure.
There were several areas to this place. We stayed in what they called "the grown up area". One of the other sections was filled with the young kids and teenagers...we felt as if we were babysitting.
It's definitly an interesting place to people watch for sure with all the drunken mayhem that ensues. We watched a couple of rowdy people getting bounced out and one girl even went toe to toe with the cops.... There was also a local guy who is about 70 who likes to take his shirt off and sing with whatever band happens to be playing...what a character.
Driving to Cronulla is easy; finding parking is not always so. There are several parking garages in the area as well as on the street parking but during peak times the spaces are hard to come by. The two times we drove in instead of taking the train we had quite a lengthy search for parking and then a rather lengthy walk to the pub and club.I...more
Trinity Clothing was another shop we visited when we were in Cronulla. The shop was small but has a large selection of women's dresses, shoes and accessories. We were wandering past the window when a dress caught my eye as well as the large sale sign in the window. Liz and I went inside and found several dresses we both liked. After trying on a few...more
Rundles is one of the many shops that sell dresses in Cronulla. The store is rather large with tons of long and short dresses as well as skirts and tops. We initially went in just to take a look but found a beautiful long dress in a Navy blue and white pattern. After finding her size, my wife headed off to the dressing room. It was a perfect fit...more
Flirty is one of the many shops in Cronulla on the main drag. This particular store drew us in when we saw a dress in the window. The store has a large selection of womens clothing from dresses, tops; both casual and evening attire. After wandering the shop Liz decided on a flowery short white dress with hot pink flowers and a light pink ruffles...more
Cronulla on its day is one of the great east coast surfing spots. I still remember as a young teenager travelling for hours by trian to surf/bogey board.
Equipment: Surfboard or bogey board.
Favorite thing: The ocean was great, the beach was quiet- its still awaiting summer where there is barely any room left in that sand.
