Trains, 'n Cars, 'n Planes (but no boats lol!)
We drove to Dubbo in our own car, but if you happen to be visiting Australia from overseas then here are your options for travel to Dubbo.
By car: - Dubbo is described as being at the hub of north-south & east-west road networks, about midway between Melbourne & Brisbane on the north-south hub. It's about 5 & 1/2 hours drive west of Sydney & that's with minimal stops on the way.
By train: - You can travel from Sydney on the XPT, a very comfortable service, but takes much longer than driving & leaves you with the problem of getting yourself around Dubbo after you've arrived. More info from Countrylink on 13 22 32
By plane: - Three regional airlines offer quite a few daily flights to & from Dubbo. Regional Express can be contacted on 13 17 13 (within Australia don't know about o/s). QantasLink on 13 13 13 (& www.qantas.com.au) & the local ariline Air-Link on (02) 6884 2435 business hours or 13 13 13.

Once you get here by means other than car
If you've arived by train or plane now you have the issue of getting around the environs of Dubbo city & surrounds.
You have two options which are firstly to hire a car or secondly catch a taxi to get around.
If you are only staying a brief time say a day then a cab may be the option. You can contact them on 13 10 08 for Dubbo.
If you are planning on staying a few days then I would most strongly advise hiring/renting a car. There are a couple of options to do this. Avis & Thrifty car rental are two I know of. You would need to ring them for exact rates/costs. Thrifty advertises free delivery & pick up. I don't know about Avis. Ring to compare the two. Get yourself the best deal that way.
