SCONE - THOROUGHBRED HORSE CAPITAL
Scone is known as the "Horse capital of Australia" as it has 65 Race Horse studs here. The countryside in this area, is rich and pretty. We have entered this town in every possible way, the last being on our scenic tour through Barrington Tops. This drive is called the "Heritage World Drive" and comes out in Scone.
The Visitor Information and Wine Centre, situated opposite Elizabeth Park is where you find the statue of the mare and foal and is worth a stop. Available is an internet service and kiosk facilities.
Interested in Horses, then a visit to the Australian Stock Horse Society Historical Museum, tells the story of the Stock horse which is now considered one of the world's most versatile horses. The Breed has evolved over time through selective breeding.
The Museum is at the Society's Offices at 48 Guernsey Street, in Scone, it has a Gift Shop. and is open Monday till Friday 9am – 5pm.
Another event worth remembering to visit at the End of April, beginning of May, is the Horse Festival.... check the website for details.
And of course, if there are lots of Thoroughbred Horse studs, then there has to be an excellent Race Course, which Scone has!
Located on Highway 15 [New England Highway}302 km from Sydney.

Climbing the Bucketts
The sharp hills at the western side of Gloucester are called the Bucketts and there's a track through private property that gives you access to the northern end.
At first it's through a paddock and it gets very steep about one third of the way up and then, for the adventurous, you start to climb up the rocks.
I would be lying if I said it was easy but, if you're an accomplished bushwalker you won't find it all that difficult, with painted arrows to guide you along the way.
The reward is spectacular views (abour 270 degrees worth) over the town and to the north west.
Allow about 2 hours with photographs oh, and take a bottle of liquid with you and a sun hat.
