Barrington Tops National Park, Gloucester
The scenic drive across the Barrington Tops between Gloucester and Scone forms a direct link between the Upper Hunter and the coast. It's a popular road for tourists but is also used by logging trucks transporting hardwood logs so watch out for them. It is unsealed a lot of the way as it is in national park.
The mountain scenery, Beech Forests, wildlife and birdlife, we did not see as unfortunately for us, as we climbed higher and higher, fog began to set in, so there weren't any stops at these scenic lookouts, now we will need a return visit!
An unexpected stop, was to OPEN and SHUT the large Dingo gate. Nearby, is Moonan Lookout which is meant to have spectacular views to the South towards Wollemi N.P., too foggy for us to see anything!!!
Remember, this area does get cold, and snowfalls are not uncommon!
Maybe you could do this journey and get to enjoy the many vista's and nature walks. On a fine, sunny day, I think the picnic & BBQ's would be very popular.
