You know it's not such a long ride from the City to Katoomba. This depends on the amount of stops usually about 90 minutes or more..There is nothing like the coolness of the mountains on a really hot sydney summers day. Trains leave Central Railways station every hour (just check timetables) especially on weekends as some times there is maintenance trackwork on the lines. The "Intercity trains are comfortable and reasonably fast A return train ticket to Katoomba from the city central is about $25.00.

As one of the organizers of the Winter Magic Festival in Katoomba, I can happily recommend the Blue Mountains Trolley Service. They play a very strong and positive role in the local community and this service is the perfect way to get around once you get to Katoomba
There is no advantage in buying a combined bus and rail ticket for Katoomba. In fact, it is less expensive to buy the rail ticket and join up with Blue Mountains Trolley Tours when you arrive (see image Giant Chess is played each weekend on Carrington Hotel forecourt at top of town),
I also noticed that a lot of people were using the local trolley busses to get to their destinations here...I asked and it was a day ticket $20.00 hop on or off at any of 29 local destination attractions..pick up at railway station..
Travelling to Katoomba from the city to view Blue Mountains and attractions..A combined Blue Mountains Explorer ticket is the way to go..very affordable way to get to the Blue Mountains by Train and once there use the (RED)Explorer busses that go to all the destinations here..ask at city rail stations for info on this..See info number below....Also There is a number for hearing and speach impaired people and that is.. 1800-637-500..these are get on and off when you like..
Includes unlimited travel ib tge Explorer Bus for the day or length of stay in the mountains (Max 7 days).
You get a Cliff Tops and Valleys Tour, guidebook with maps and timetable.
This is a good way to see your options of things to do, before commiting to anything.

The drivers are very helpful and friendly.
There are only a couple ways to get to Katoomba, bus, train, or personal car. If you are here for any long amount of time, you will probably want to get your own car, however there are taxis out there that could take you around if you take the train out there.
Katoomba is home to the Three Sisters, some fun shopping and also Scenic World. We decided to take the tour bus with FJ Tours, which was fun, however we did not get enough time at alot of the attractions!
buy a day ticket for 12AUD an you can hop on and off the Trolley Bus wherever you like, it has 29 stops and you get great information from the driver. The bus leaves Katoomba every hour on the circular route, and there is another bus every thirty minutes between the Three Sisters and Katoomba
