The Surf here at Manly attracts those surfies to the water. Whether you are a seasoned surfer or just curious to learn you can do it here. Surf shops sell lessons and have surfboard lessons on the beach and the Corso area. I'll leave the surfing to the professionals and just watch from the beach.
Manly is a true sport-lovers paradise, so many things to do rather than just sit, swim and chill. Though it is not a place for amateur/first-time surfers, you might need an experienced instructor or a 1-day surf lesson. But if you’re not really into surfin’ just rent a bike or a pair of blades to explore Manly, believe me walkin’ around here can be really exhausted and very time-consuming unless you have more than 1-2 days.

For surfboards renting, try the Dripping Wet on 95 North Steyne
For blades, go to Manly Blades, 2/49 North Steyne – group lessons available
For boats and kayaks, I recommend the one located right opposite Manly Wharf Hotel. Self-drive boats available for fishing sport, snorkeling or just a leisure drive along the coastline. (Booking needed) 0412 622 662
Surfing in Manly might be mostly for the beginners, at least in summertime, when the waves normally stay at 2-3 ft. Haven't experienced winter yet, but it should get bigger. Water temp. in summer stays at 23-24 degrees (no suit or spring suit), but in winter you might consider bringing your full suit.
Equipment: Surfboard and wetsuit, unless you are planning on buying it here.
Surfing is something you will definitely see at Manly Beach. There are surfers in the water catching some medium to large waves along with kids on boogie boards. There are several spots to rent surf equipment if you want to try and be a Surfie for the day.
You can often catch a game of Rugby or a game of cricket at Manly Oval.
Its a popular venue for many sports and well worth your effort to check-out if a game of footy happens to be on whilst visiting Manly.
If you walk along Manly Beach promenade you will see many beach volley games happening. You can join in if its not a competition.
Its a fun thing to watch if you are visiting Manly Beach, many of the locals play regularly.
Manly beach on its day is one of the great surf beaches of Sydney. Either catch a ferry over or drive then surf all day. Great place to eat and chill out close to Sydney.
