Mosman Things to Do

  • VISIT TARONGA ZOOLOGICAL PARK MOSMAN

When I used to live in Mosman it was quite amazing to hear The animal noises eminating from the zoo especially the lions roaring at night time .This of course made me feel like I was anywhere except this quiet leafy suburb of Sydney. I have many times visited this zoo and I used to enjoy so much the photo opportunities that the Zoo enabled me to...

  • Koalas

We came to the zoo specifically because Liz wanted to see Koalas. We first waited on line for our Koala encounter and had our pictures taken with an over friendly bear. We then moved on to see the other Koalas. Most were asleep in trees but one precocious bear was up and about giving us a little show.We found out that contrary to belief. Koalas are...

  • Bears

It wouldn't be a zoo without a big bear. The bear looked a bit uncomfortable and hot walking around the habitat. He was a big guy and had some realy thick fur considering the season.

  • Lions & Tigers

I loved the lions and tigers. They really are awesome creatures. We had some annoying kids heckeling the animals and banging against the fencing. We were hoping they would get eaten....

  • Mountain Goats

It's amazing to watch these mountain goats balance on the rocks and jump from level to level. I don't know how they don't fall.

  • Red Panda

The Red Panda obviously didn't want to play to the camera. He was lying on his tree branch hanging out and keeping his face turned. We waited a bit to see if he would turn but he didn't much to Liz's disapointment.

  • Gorillas

The Gorillas are always pretty chill. They were just hanging about grooming each other and eating. We were happy to stand about watching them seem so at ease in their habitat.

  • Lizards

We basically ran through most of the reptile area. They had live snakes out of the cages with handlers. Neither one of us likes snakes so we boogied out of there as fast as we could. At the end of the exhibit were some large Lizards (in cages thankfully) that we could observe without fear of being bit or eaten.

  • Crocodiles

Crocodiles aren't seen doing muck but laying about or partialy submerged in the water. Unless there is a feeding they stay pretty still watching everything around them.

  • Giraffe

It is such a strange yet awesome sight to see giraffes with the city skyline behind them. We lingered a bit here to see the giraffes who basically just walked around and ate from large feeders at the corners of the habitat.

  • Kangaroos

The kangaroos seemed to have too much caffeine that morning. They were bouncing around their habitat at such a frenzy it was impossible to get a pic of the. They even startled us by slamming feet first into the fences.

  • Meerkat Madness

The Meerkats were fun to watch. Their habiat was a dessert area with burrows, rocks and branches spread across a large open area surrounded by a wall. We enjoyed watching them scurry around and romp with each other. They are very funny creatures and quite entertaining.

Mosman Transportation

  • Sky Tram

When you get off the ferry you have an otption of taking the Sky Tram into the park or the bus. The Tram was a longer wait so we opted for the bus. I would imagine the views are worth the wait.

It was Liz's Birthday and all she was very excited to get to see the Koalas. We waited in line for our turn to stand next to the Koala and have a souvenir picture taken. The koala bear was attracted to Liz and kept walking right across the branch and almost climbed on her head. We later discovered that her shampoo contained Australian Aloe and that must have been the reason why they bear wanted to eat her or just have a sniff.....

Balmoral Beach is off the Beaten Path...but a great family beach or good for a chill. It's not a Bondi or Manly...but a good, local beach. One of our favorite restaurants in Sydney is right on this beach, called Bathers. Brekkie is the best...but lunch or dinner is great...with first class meals and wine.If you want to feel like a local, this is a...
