Murrimba Off The Beaten Path
While you are out of the car you might like to contemplate the traffic from another angle. As it roars by above you.
And meditate on the bustling little township that used to be here and has passed away.
This is a genuine ghost town. Nothing left here - not even ghosts.
It is not very easy or obvious how to pull off into the rest area on the corner of Murrimba Road and the Hume Highway. I think the sign is still there but the ingress is not a triumph of social engineering.
No facilities of any sort - but the beauty of the bush is it provides privacy for any number of necessary human activities.
If it is a very hot day you might even contemplate a refreshing dip in the lagoon.
I can almost guarantee there are no body parts in there anymore.
Let me paint you the picture.
You are driving along the Hume Highway towards Melbourne and you by-passed Berrima about 10 minutes ago and you have just crossed the bridge at Paddys River (signpost - Wingello 7 k on your left) now you are pulling up a bit of a hill and you are about 10 minutes away from Marulan.
Right now - at this very moment - a wombat could decide to cross the road. And they won't go - Look left, look right, look left again - now it looks safe to cross.
No - they are all a bit muddleheaded and stubborn and they just step right out.
The pic is of a young one. His mother is a monster and could do you some real damage. And you don't even want to think about what would happen if you tangled with his grandfather.
