I can still hear the growl

Fondest memory: So, there we were, sitting by the waterside at Starfish Cafe, enjoying a quiet Sunday with some of the rels by the water. I have to admit I was somewhat curious as to why all the tables bar ours were reserved but, what the heck I thought, it's a beautiful autumnal day and people want to get out.
Then we heard the loudspeakers blaring. They preceded the even louder roar as the offshore racers made their way to the start line right in front of our cafe. Now it all became clear.
Needless to say, being a closet petrol head, I took the opportunity to watch them do the first couple of laps before I was summoned by "she who must be obeyed" to go back with the rels.
This photo is of one of the world's most powerful boats, with twin 12 cylinder Lamborghini at 8.2 litres each providing not inconsiderable thrust. Mmmm, love that roar!

I'm A Local

Favorite thing: Hi. All u travellers and ur tips are so very wrong!
to foreigners, newcastle can be summed up as: the most beautiful city in the world.
All those European cities? boring! Asian, American? Very boring!!!
Newcastle was originally a penal colony for convicts, now it is a booming boom-town (not really). In the city there are alot of teenage losers, who hang around and want to mug you (joke). Clubs and clubs in newcastle are all CRAP AS, believe me, except Illusion, which is in Hunter ST,city.
The beaches are nice, but too many ugh- people there, like fat guys in speedos and women with big thighs. Not so good. Restaurants are also very poor, very bad. Best to eat sticks and leaves and urine.
Ok, well, as i said, i'm a local, I WAS BORN HERE, and i know EVERYTHING about this bum town. So everyone else is WRONG WRONG WRONG. i really hate travellers. they dont know anything!!!!

Fondest memory: When i turned 18 and could leave this horrible, horrible place. The people are horrid.

Favorite thing: Take advantage of the many beaches and restaurants. I always take visitors to Redhead beach, about four kilometres away. It is a magnificent beach and some of its sand can be found on beaches in Hawaii.

Fondest memory: The Newcastle Lake Macquarie city is large about 500,000 people but it has the atmosphere of a country town. The people of Newcastle are great. They are generous and for the most part honest.
An earthquake devastated the city in 1989 - there was no looting and people pulled together to work for the city.

Favorite thing: Will fill this out more completely when I dig out my scrapbooks! Definitely liked waking up to sound of surf. Went off season and had a seaside room with balcony for reasonable price. The bartender took Pam and I on a round of wine tasting the next day in his sports car! We had a blast. We met some amazing characters!

Fondest memory: the charming people and the view of the ocean from our room
