Travelling around The Northern Rivers District of NSW means you will probably drink heaps of coffee and green tea...or even a beer or two if it is hot. 'Going' in the bush is frowned on these days.....I think it is illegal....well if you are caught !....so please choose your spot wisely. In NSW many of the service stations have the facilities inside or else locked and you need a key....another trap on the road. Be prepared.

I can certainly recommend the clean colourful and maybe unisex toilets in Nimbin (NO....they do not have a bath there so you cannot call them 'bathrooms')....I cannot help having a go at the term 'bathroom' used by some of our visitors ....If your travel takes you out towards and past Casino I cannot say the same thing for Mallanganee.....nothing enticing about that little lot.....you will certainly not want to bath there. LOL...you will want to 'hold on'

Anyway have a look at the photos of Nimbin and see what you think....pretty funky 'yes'?

I Think This Respresents the 1970's

The town buildings are decorated by local artists, most following a theme from the past whether it be the recent " Hippy Communes" or the thousands of years old culture and traditions of the local Aboriginals, the traditional land owners.

Be In Another World, Nimbin "Hemp Embassy"

The boom years of the Hippy Cultivation of Nimbin was during the 1970's when communes were estabilished along the hills and valley enclosed by the subtropical rainforrest. Life was a buzz for the alternative people and there was plenty of "dope" for all. Many hippies remain in the district and I am certain the principals of the alternative lifestyle are still practiced today.

    Local or Imported ?

I do not know much about these, but they are located in a park next to the Nimbin Regional Gallery. I would think they are local works.

One of the biggest events of the year, not only do the residents "go high" the dogs jump high. Bring your dog and enjoy him going high.
