This is in a new development of apartments above & shops below by a fellow I've known since his family moved up here from Sydney well over 20 years ago.
Every time I went past this place in the evening it was doing really good business, quite possibly at the expense of "Relish by the River" only about 6 doors down the road! How many were locals & how many Xmas tourists?
A big group of us; 6 adults & 6 kids (no, not 1 each!) had dinner there one night. It does have a cedrtain ambience that was heightened by the al fresco dining on a balmy summer's evening. The food wasn't too bad & the coffee was quite okay. Service could have been better, but I'll put that down to the teething problems associated with starting a new business.
Favorite Dish: My rellies (ausshorthandspeak 4 relatives - all by marriage I might add!) being fairly carnivorous by nature all had steak. Me being less so inclined had the spinach & fetta ravioli with pumpkin. The others said their steaks were quite nice & my ravioli was quite nice too, except I would have liked more pumpkin involved in the dish & less emphasis on the cream in the sauce. That's just my idiosynchratic tasste though, others might have really like that.
This cafe/restaurant has a lovely setting even though the main road running through North haven, along the riverbank can get a bit busy on occasions (still nothing like Sydney or even worse, Paris). You can sit outside on the patio/verandah which affords you the best views, but is not recommended in the heat of summer because the dreaded Aussie flies might try to carry off both your food & you (slight exaggeration, but you get my point).
The food's quite good although not cheap and the coffee isn't too bad either. Keep in mind I'm comparing Sydney & Paris eating places to this so not too bad is pretty good for most country areas.
Favorite Dish: Usually whatever fish dish is on the menu at the time.
We don't get to eat there that often because our twin girls would rather buy whiting tails, calamari rings & hot chips (yes, not fries thank you very much!) and sit on the riverbank almost directly opposite in Dunbogan (on the southern bank of the Camden Haven river).
