New lines

Though this is down near the waterfront, it is symptomatic of the new development taking place in Shellharbour. The massive shopping centre (with recommended fish market) was only put there for a reason. Obviously, as always in these matters, the developers knew what was coming and the urban sprawl has certainly begun in earnest.
The building shown here has an excellent coffee lounge on the ground floor by the way.

When I get fired up with camera in hand, I tend to start looking everywhere for photos. Thus it was en route on the southern walk that I came upon all these items, the small things that often pass unnoticed.

Early morning surf

These shots were all taken from where we stayed in the caravan park. Frankly I was surprised at the quality of the surf right before our eyes. The locals generally ignored it, instead choosing a break at the end of the breakwall that was less consistent and even more dangerous except for a handful of lid riders who once spent an hour here.
Right along the foreshore is a well tended walk frequented by locals and tourists alike and this allows you to follow the coastline for some distance, as we did. (see next tip)

The coal loader

The aptly named South Beach lies immediately beyond Shellharbour. At the southern end there's a coal loader but the walk all the way along the beach front has been wonderfully landscaped, partly funded by the coal companies and part public monies. The locals love to walk their dogs along here and there's a couple of well contructed carpark/picnic spots.

The famous pub

Though you can still do your shopping here, these days it's mainly for the cafe set. The new inland development with its large shopping mall is where most people go for their groceries etc.
The hotel is definitely the stand out building with its balcony located to take full advantage of the ocean views.
