Sushi Train is a "chain" of sushi restaurants across Australia; they have several locations in the Sydney area. We came to the Sutherland location with our friend Laura for lunch. Judging by the crowd of people in the place and only one empty table; this place must be pretty popular.
We had a seat at theone empty table and took at look at the surroundings. A conveyor belt shuttled differnt dishes around the resturant passing by the tables and counter seats. Each dish had a color code that signified the price and there were descriptive plaques before each item. There was also a menu to order dishes but we chose to ride the "sushi train" and see what they had to offer.
We found several items we wanted: eel rolls, california rolls, dragon rolls, angry dragon rolls, shrimp rolls, edamame and a few others that escape my mind. The food was very tasty and fresh. We all ate until we were full... We then signaled for the server who tallied up our bill and we were off to the cashier.
It was a great lunch and quite easy on the wallet.
Baker's Delight is a chain bakery in the area. They have a variety of pastry, breads, cookies, ready made sandwiches and even pizzas. This place was right by the train station so we woul stop in and get a blueberry white chocolate scone for me and an apple or apricot lattice for Liz to enjoy on our train ride. They made these incredible snowflake rolls that we bought for one of our friend's barbeques; the were soft and very good.
The prices here were very cheap but I would have gladly paid more for such delicious items.
Indian Home Dinner is alocal Indian take out joint. It's a small shop with various already prepared Indian Dishes ready for take home. Liz and I stopped here several times for food suring our trip. The food was good, fresh and very affordable.
I enjoyed the lamb curry, vegetable pakoras, samosas and their garlic naan. My wife loved their pakoras and samosas which were delicous and a huge portion.
The train was our prefered way to get to Sutherland. We hoped on a train from Central and it was a nice 45 minute ride to Sutherland. The ride is quite nice and passes through some interesting little areas along the way.
Franklins was the local grocery store in Sutherland. It was a nice size with separate areas for fruit/veggies, meat and fish. We often came here to stock up on some food items for the house and for some party stuff for a BBQ.
On our first shopping excursion here we discoverd the best ice cream bars ever. They are called Magnum bars and come in a variety of ice cream and chocolate coatings. Our favorite was a vanilla ice cream covered in white chocolate. It was rich, creamy and so addicting.
