 | Sydney Darling Harbour / Casino Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 45 | | Imagine, a working-type bunch of wharves clearly showing the ravages of time, falling into disuse as the methods of carrying cargo are changing rapidly. What to do? Turn it into a world class attraction of course! One of the largest aquariums in the world, the Sydney Aquarium, with more than 5000 different Australian fish displayed in their natural habitats is here. Visitors can "walk on the ocean floor" through 145 metres (480 ft) of acrylic underwater tunnels. The aquarium is open 9.30am-9pm daily, with the last admission at 8pm.
The features of this spot include Chinese Gardens, Powerhouse Museum and the standout National Maritime Museum. The latter is comprehensive, covering things such as aborigines' use of the sea, surf lifesaving, a VIetnamese refugee craft and a reconstructed lighthouse, in addition to the usual things you would expect to see............such as boats! A replica "Endeavour", the collier that James Cook ventured to Australia on, a destroyer and a submarine are some of the exhibits to enjoy. The replica itself spent 11 years wandering the world's oceans before it finally rested here. Leave a Comment

What you now have is an Entertainment Centre, Sydney Aquarium, Star City Casino, IMAX Theatre (pic 4), Powerhouse Museum, 5 star accommodation - and that's just to name a few! There are also pleasant things like the Japanese Gardens and lots of fountains. Needless to say shopping, especially for souvenirs, is another activity many people undertake. By day or night, this is well worth a look.
The Maritime Museum has features other than the Endeavour. You can climb aboard HMAS Onslow, a submarine, if you so choose. There's also a frigate and assorted smaller craft as well as a lighthouse as you can clearly see in picture 5. The eastern side now has a modern architectural front (pic 3) with things jutting out everywhere so your eye is continally pondering unusual shapes. Leave a Comment

Like all large cities, Sydney boasts a Chinatown. Like in all Chinatowns, most people go there to do one thing, eat. Maybe they'll buy a few trinkets, but mostly people go to eat. This one is no exception, though they call the dim-sum, yum-cha. Its no cleaner and no more fluent in English than any other Chinatown, but if you're hungry, you can get a good Chinese meal here. Ramonq of VT knows the place to go.
I found the food here to be nearly identical to that found in Chinatowns across North America and Europe. If you like Chinese food, it won't hold any surprises for you and can generally be considiered a "sure thing". Leave a Comment

While being in Sydney I enjoyed the quite moments sitting on the steps at Darling Harbour. While sitting on these steps you can have a look at the wonderful bay, check out some of the boats who are docked there and look at the people passing by... and off course you can't forget the frequently passing monorail. Just enjoying the sounds of the ocean, the people and the city life are recomforting when you are hassling to find cheap accomodations or deciding to were to spend your evening.
Once, I was sitting there when 2 of the Harbour taxis collided in the waters... quite funny to see and this was my special moment which brought a perfect smile on my face and launched me to meet new people in several bars... Some moments are just unforgettable !! Leave a Comment

Full of fun things to see and to do, Darling Harbour is a great place to spend a day visiting attractions that cater all ages and tastes. (You need more than a day to make the most of it.) Take a stroll, go shopping, indulge your interest in history, movies, wildlife and more. And in the evening, sample the many great dining opportunities that abound in this area. You can find here the Sydney Aquarium (see further), Cockle Bay Wharf (Some of the city's most highly awarded restaurants are to be found in this stylish setting.), Panasonic IMAX, Chinese Garden of Friendship (see further), Sydney's Paddy's Markets and Market City (Souvenirs, gifts and 200 special stores, plus Australia's largest yum cha.), Powerhouse Museum, Harbour Side, Australian Maritime Museum, Star City/Buran and Water Screens (Evening shows of light, sound, lasers and water.). Personal I didn't visit all of it, but I want you to give an impression of things to see and to do at the Darling Harbour. See for more pics and info in the Darling Harbour travelogue please.
