Favorite thing:
Whenever I think deeply about Sydney, sometime or other the old Post Office building comes to mind. Other cities in Australia also have fine post offices, notably Perth and Newcastle, but the first one I ever became interested in was this one (picture 2).
These days its use has changed but thankfully the grand architecture remains.
Known as the point from which all points in Sydney were originally measured, No.1 Martin Place has certainly earned the right to be described as the true heart of the city. Even with famous attractions such as the Harbour Bridge, Opera House, Darling Harbour and Pitt Street Mall shopping just minutes' away, there is simply so much to do in No. 1 Martin Place that it is no wonder some guests might be tempted to never leave the building!
The Westin boasts luxurious accommodation, innovative cuisine and extensive banquet and catering facilities, but guests also have access to some other first class facilities housed in the original GPO such as the Health Club whose first-rate facilities include the latest in cardio and weight equipment, a heated pool, steam rooms and a range of classes and services including massage therapy.
Then there's the exclusive Perry Ellis salon providing comprehensive hair treatments and services and you can go and show it all off afterwards in the GPO restaurants and bars featuring the well-known Prime and Post restaurants, a sushi train, oyster bar, cellar and cheese room and much more, with a style reminiscent of inner-city New York and London.
An entire floor of exquisite shopping awaits you beneath the No. 1 Martin Place atrium. Without leaving the building, visit exclusive designers and boutiques including Anthea Crawford, XILE and Zoya Karman.
Fondest memory:
Martin Place has other fine edifices, many funded by banks originally. It was also a road originally but was converted into a mall in the latter part of the 20th century which allowed things like the fountain pictured to enhance the locale.
