Nightclubs and bars in Sydney

Always draws the crowds come Friday and Saturday night. Small deck areas outside worthy of a breather overlooking Taylors Square and the happenings below. Music funky house. A definate happening place and must visit on a night out!

Have been there twice, really loved it both times. The music is great, house/electronic and both times i was there they had someone singing/rapping with it, it was great.

Dress Code: Dress like you are going out to dance and have fun.

Well you VTers will be keeling over from shock. Here's Doug who never has a Nightlife tip now has not one, but two for Sydney.

Alas though this is not from personal experience. That is apart from having walked past here & seen it all for myself many times over the last 7 footie seasons after Swans games.

This is the main place where those fans without families either go to celebrate a win (like today with a crusing 70+ point win over Hawthorn) or drown their sorrows & analyse what went wrong & how the umpires robbed as yet again with some amazingly bad & biased decisions. lol!

As well as being able to drink the night away you also have a range of dining choices. After all it is a Bar & Restaurant. Again I can't recommend it to you personally, but I know it offers a rang of cuisine in its Bistro/Cafe such as Chinese, Italian, Modern Australian, Pizza or Woodfire Pizza & Thai.

As with Bungalow8 this also would be a place best enjoyed with a group of friends.

Dress Code: There isn't a special dress code here, but of course you wouldn't want to turn up dressed like some sort of yobbo. Everyone looks neat enough, but most are dressed to impress, well not the men anyway.

Lashings of effortless style, quiet out-of-the-way location and live music. Combine this with no TAB, and only three pokies, and you have a pub that tops my list
Hooray for Hollywood!
It is small, dimly lit, and very intimate. The décor is very deco: deep red paintwork, tasselly-shaded light fittings, heavily etched window glass.
The licensee, Doris Goddard, is a real live Hollywood film star, an Australian girl made good on stages and screens all round the world. She has starred in such films as The Iron Petticoat, Robbery Under Arms, Tim and Hostage to name a few, alongside actors like Bob Hope, Sid James, Peter Finch, Robert Helpmann, Katharine Hepburn, Robert Mitchum, Jill Ireland and David McCallum. She has sung in nightclubs from London to Paris and Madrid, Tokyo, Taiwan and Bangkok. Photos of Doris, lovingly displayed inside the pub and out.

Dress Code: Whatever you like.

I utterly loved this place! You can go there to have something to drink (get before 11 to get a table) and then there's usually live music. After that, there's a DJ so you cna dance as well.
Not a "to see and be seen" place at all.

Dress Code: Casual. I went with shorts and flip flops once!

I regret not exploring more of Byron's nightlife while I was there, although I did branch out a bit from the Oz bus recommendation of cheeky monkey's after a while!! A few recommendations are The Northern Hotel and The Beach Hotel - good for live music. Cocomangas club was a slight improvement on Cheeky Monkey's!

More for Australian citizens (and as well for other visitors) who like to taste a good Belgium beer can visit the Belgium Beer Café 'Epoque'. I first saw this place on the Belgium T.V. News when the Olympics were on. Wrote a lot of people on VT who lived in Sydney and nobody had heard of this place before. Finally I got the address via the journalist who had spent time there (the Belgium was represented at the Olympics by the tennis and judo teams), and also the same day I got the e-mail from Miaou (Mia) giving me the same address after long searching. Thanks for that Mia. We were walking in Sydney on a sunny afternoon and decided to visit to the bistro. Fortunately we rang them to book in advance only to learn the place was full with 20 odd people waiting outside!!! So, we went to another place then and never made it there. It must be a good establishment with lots of people waiting outside. Other people we spoke to say they had heard of the place and that it was an exclusive place... meaning you have to book in advance and expect to pay BIG. As a point of interest the only Belgium beer that is readily available in Aussie is 'Stella Artois'. In Belgium well known as the worst and gives one a big headache after a few pints. But still better then the Dutch beer 'Heineken' that taste like water (personally I think it is water) and after a few gallons of it you just have to run to the toilet ;-) I was disappointed better Belgium beers like
'Duvel', 'Leffe', 'Judas', 'Golden Carolus', 'Kwak', 'Chimay', 'Orval', 'Rochefort', 'Westmalle', 'Gueuze', 'Kriek', 'Hoegaarden' and 'Forbidden Fruit' were rare. Well Aussies, drink one from all they have (at the same evening) and let me know how your evening was ;-) It's the only Belgium Beer Café in Aussie I know at the moment, but there will be one opened in Canberra in the near future.

Frequented by 15 year olds and everyone from the Oz Experience! Worth a visit for an interesting night out - be prepared to dance on the tables as floor space is extremely lacking!
