It is easy to carried away and spend waaay to much on a good night out in Sydney. We found a bar in Taylor Square (just off Oxford street) called Kinselas that sold bottles of sparkling wine for $15 Australian. Nice. Middlebar is a funky bar upstairs for dancing with no cover charge. Mint.
Dress Code: Clean and trendy. Glamourous if you're that way inclined.

Scubar was the bar that my best friend and I started with every day during our 2 week party stint in Sydney. It was a smallish bar with really cool bartenders and waitresses. Drinks were cheap. Music was good. And the atmosphere was just plain fun! After we got our drink on we'd generally head out to one of the other clubs that we could find to dance and meet women.
Dress Code: There was no dress code that I'm aware of.

Small but intimate. Have a feed in the restaraunt in the front, perhaps a drink from the side bar and then head to the back for more drinks and perfect place to dance!
Apparently post-gig/show haunt for music big wigs. The signed photos on the wall says it all.

Sydney has great night life. Pubs, clubs, niteclubs, jazz venues, dinner shows, dinner cruises, etc. Sydney has it all!!! Try the Basement, a well know jazz bar in George St. The Rocks has great pubs. I highly recommend dinner/dance cruises :o) Have fun!!

For single women looking for a night out, try Establishment on a Thursday night. Free Champagne for ladies until 7pm.
This is where everyone goes after a long day at work. The place is huge and always full. It is located in the Financial district of Sydney.
Dress is Corporate attire. Girls can get away with wearing dresses.
I just have to recommend ordering some of their fries too ! :) Im sure there is plenty of other good food on the menu as well as the fries :).

This is a typical aussie place. At least that is what I was told. I've been here a few times and to give you a good advice, please don't go anywhere near the toilets....
There are some pool tables on the top floor. Very important is that the drinks a much cheaper than most other places in the area.

This is the BEST place to see a band in town, especially if you're short! The room is levelled, with the bar, at the back of the room, being at the highest point. So while you're standing in line for your drinks, you can actually see the band!
It's not a huge place, which is good meaning you can really see your favourite artist's facial expressions, not just a stick figure 300 metres away! I'd say the crowd capacity is around 500.
Plenty of international artists play here, too.

For the seriously chic of Sydney. Beautiful (& yes, expensive) food & drinks. A little later on the restaurant disappears and people are dancing. Sunday nights are the best, with Sneaky Sounds playing there every Sunday.
UPDATE 15Jun04: Friday/Saturday nights are now the night to go. Sunday nights have faded a bit. There is usually a $15 cover-charge, I am not sure that its worth it. I think this place is no longer the unique place it used to be...
Dress Code: No trainers. No light-colored jeans.
Anything seriously trendy.
