    Sydney has the best way to impress the out of town visitor. Sending tourists on a ferry through the harbour for a half an hour boat ride to some great beaches. Take a ride from Circular Quay to Manly and you won't be disappointed. The walk to the beach is just a 200 metres from the ferry terminal. Ferry costs is included in a $15 day ticket for public transport.

    Take a drive north and stop at the beautiful rugged beaches along the way such as Avalon and Palm Beach. Most of the beaches have a pool built into the ocean and these are great for children and the beaches around there is always popular for surfers.

    Then you have come to the right place. The Sydney metropolitan area has over 150 of them. These range from long sandy Pacific Ocean surf beaches to small harbour beaches surrounded by lush bush. Exploring the beaches of Sydney is a great way to explore the city itself. There are some great articles on some of the beaches on this site or you can find a list of all the beaches and maps of where to find them on my personal site Many of the beaches are linked by lovely paths and visiting several adjoining beaches in one day is a really enjoyable excursion. A god way to explore some of the harbour beaches is to get one of the water taxi’s to take you on a “Beach Safari”

    This is not really a 'hidden' gem..at all in fact...but speaking to most people, they chose Manly beach over Bondi Beach...and i think Bondi was ab fab!!! Totally worth the extra long bus ride!! The area is much better too, more things to do i feel

    To reach this beach, you have to catch the ferry to Ettalong, and then hop into a taxi to Pearl Beach or you can drive from Sydney which takes approx 90 minutes. It's well worth the effort, as the beach is gorgeous with million dollar waterfront beach houses hidden amongst tall Norfolk Pine trees. The beach is long and slender, with a lovely rock pool on the southern end.There are two cafes and one excellent restaurant called "Pearls on the beach" this is highly recommended as the views and food are absolutely stunning.     Visit beautiful Avalon Beach, named for the mythical Avalon of King Arthur. Avalon was made popular when an episode of Baywatch was filmed here. Fortunately those Baywatch people left for Hawaii and Avalon returned to it's peaceful beauty.
