    The Blue Mountains are located less then two hours west of Sydney. These mountains are part of the Great Dividing Range. The Blue Mountains get it's name from the Blue mist that rises from the millions of eucalyptus trees and stays in the mountain air.

    Lithgow is the place for Steam trains.Every weekend steam trains traverse the Zig Zag from the top of the mountain to the bottom.The Zig Zag Railway was a masterpiece of engineering in the early days.To enable trains to cross the mountain, the track had to be laid in the form of a Z. They also had to build some impressive viaducts.

    On week ends a variety of steam engines are used.Passengers can leave the train for picnics in between stations on request and they will then be picked up later in the afternoon.Notice of a picnic stop must be given to the driver before leaving the station and a pick up time must be arranged.
