 | Sydney Packing Lists | Tips 71 - 80 of 86 | | Do not underestimate the winter (June-July)... it is very cold especially when there is wind as well as at coastal and mountainous areas. Layers would be the best - a long sleeve T-shirt / sweater, a fleece and a windbreaker. Leave a Comment |
Flip flops, bathing suit and towels are what you need to pack if you plan on visiting the beaches of SYdney and the outlying areas |
If like me you grew up with pictures of bronzed beauties always on the beach beware it does rain in NSW and how. I come from the West Coast of Scotland a country renowned for its precipitation and I was shocked to see the volume of water that can fall from the sky. In all seriousness it made driving conditions almost impossible. This I suspect is particularly true in their winter months, I was there in late november. You have been warned take a raincoat, particularly in the winter months. |
If you are going to the Blue Mountains in winter you will definately need warm clothes!! It gets very cold up there! As well as comfortable shoes, as there is a lot to see, and you will spend a lot of time walking! In summer, I was told you would need a hat to cover your eyes
Bring insect repellent
Just don't forget it!! And bring an extra film reel as it is hard to find here! Leave a Comment |
Summer - Sydney can get very hot. It is also very humid. So bring lots of t-shirts and shorts and skirts - things that are light and that will breathe. Brining a jacket won't do you any harm either as sometimes it can get a bit cool in the evenings. Sandles and thongs are great too - especially if you intend to spend lots of time at the beach! Winter - Winter doesn't get too cold here. I suggest you have a jacket with jeans and a long sleeved top underneath. If you are travelling to places such as blue mountains I suggest gloves and a scarf - boots and sneakers are great - and usually if it's not to cold you can wear a skirt with boots, long sleeved top and jacket and that will be plenty warm enough.
We have very good medical facilities over here - but you would probably pack your usual, headache relief etc
Of course lots and lots of film. If you want to capture our city / harbour by night a tripod is also suggested for landscape / panoramic shots |
Sydney can be hot during Summer between Oct-Dec. Shorts, cotton shirts, hat, sun block will be a must in your packing list when travelling in Summer. If you travel in June-August then get the coat and sweater ready cuz it is winter time in Sydney. Lip balm is good to avoid the lip dryness and moisturizer lotion is good for your skin. |
This is a very casual city. If you're not on business travel, pack neat casual clothes with you. Shorts can be worn on the streets and pubs, but some upmarket areas or clubs do not tolerate them. Leave a Comment |
We were there in winter and the temperature hovered between 18 to 21*C 2 layers, jeans and a weather-proof winter coat (or bring an umbrella) was fine. Once you're in the city centre, most places are accessible on foot. Lots of walking to do so bring comfortable (and broken in!) walking shoes / loafers.
Winter is also flu season and they had a very bad and deadly strain of the flu while I was there. I prepared by pumping up on vitamin C and brought those along. 500mg in the morning and another 500mg in the evenings to boost the immune system. Definitely bring moisturising lip balm and body lotion too.
Bring an empty water tumbler or buy a bottle of water there and just re-use it. Tap water in Sydney is drinkable. No point wasting money on bottled water. A 600ml of Mt. Franklin spring water can cost up to $A3.50 at some establishments! To give you an idea of how much that price is inflated, a 1 litre bottle of the same thing cost $A1.79 at Woolsworth! |
Wear comfortable shoes ! It was really warm when I was in Sydney but then again, the weather is quick changing and in the evening it can be quite cool.
