  • Make sure to take a jumper, umbrella and/or a raincoat because the weather can be rather erratic, even in summer.

You can buy everything you need there. As in the whole of Australia, you now have to ask for paracetamol over the counter.

Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses - that sun gets pretty hot.

  • During the summer months (Nov-Jan), bring light clothing ie tshirts, shorts....Winter months (mid-year) it doesnt snow, so jumpers, jackets are more than adequate.

Shouldnt be a problem getting new batteries or films for your camera or video camera...Available in most shops.

  • Something light especially when it's summer. To those who live in 4 seasons country, it shouldn't be a problem for you guys out there. But as for me (as I was born in Malaysia, hot and humid all year long)always bring along a jacket because the temp may drop at night. It's consider kinda cold to me :)

  • You'll soon discover you can walk to so many of the transport spots available in Sydney. I would highly recommend a suitcase with a trolley handle and wheels. They're easy to manage and will save you money on cab fares.

Walking is something I found most inner city people do to get from 'A to B'. Take some sensible shoes (unlike myself) to walk in, because if you're hanging out with the locals they think nothing of walking 4 or 5 city blocks to go for dinner. Ah! OUCH! My feet were not my best friends by the time we sat down for a delicious meal overlooking the Sydney Harbour Quay.

Backpack, satchel and shoulder bags are a good way to travel around Sydney.

Bring both light and heavier clothing. Sydney can be humid, cold and also rainy. When a storm sets in the weather can drastically change from hot to cold. Also, watch out for the huge hail stones, hehe.

If you are thinking to be active, then bring a variety of comfortable and durable shoes: sandals, runners, boots.

  • If you go in the Summer it'll be very hot in Sydney, so bring the short shirts, bathing suits, and sandals, for beach-going and sightseeing.

  • If you flight in Australia itself, recognize that you are only allowed to bring about 8 kg handlaguage with you into the plane.

For outdoor activities take warm clothes with you. Until August or September it can be cold in southern Australia. For trekking you will need good hiking boots.

Australia has very hard import conditions. It's not allowed to bring any food or plant (parts of plants) or animal (parts of animals, e.c. shells) not living in Australia with you. This shall protect the environment an Australias wildlife.

  • Insignificant. Some may want to ensure they have room for didgediroos etc.

Sydney's summer is December through February and it is warm to hot (24C to 34C) and quite humid 70+n January/February, so pack light. Spring and autumn can be warm and sunny one day and cool windy and raining the next, temperatures swing from 17C to 25C Winter is June through August and when coldest it is a mere 8C at night. The day temps would be 15C to 20C. A tip: Beware of the winds and bring or purchase an umbrella ($3 at a chemist).

  • Australians are usually dressed VERY casually in summer. You definitely won't stick out like a sore thumb even if you were to don a simple pair of beach shorts or skimpy tank top. An important rule of thumb: DO also try and plan your wardrobe in such a way that you'll have no problem mixing and matching your outfits and it should be able to see you through from day to night. So in this instance, that little black dress WILL come in VERY handy for the night events AND in the day time too!

I ALWAYS, ALWAYS bring along at least 2 camaras with me... just in case one breaks down. My friends used to laugh at me.... until their one and only camera broke down. Then when they had to RELY SOLELY on me and my amateurish photographic skills, they stopped laughing. Yes, immediately. Serve them right!

DON'T forget to bring along your much-treasured ATM card to withdraw cash. Yes, no need to rush to the money-changers to change all your currencies into Australian dollars before your trip. And DON'T use your Visa or Mastercard to withdraw cash. This is considered a CASH ADVANCE and you'd be slapped with a HEFTY fee whereas if you were to use YOUR own ATM card, you will NOT be charged for any fees. In fact, you WILL benefit and enjoy from the low interbank exchange rates. Trust me (I used to work for an American bank). Just ensure that you adhere to the following steps: 1. Flip to the back of your local ATM card, do you see the logos 'Cirrus', 'Plus', 'The Exchange' etc on it? 2. If the answer is 'yes', then you have absolutely nothing to worry about! 3. Why? Because you can withdraw cash from any ATM machines in Australia, no matter how obscure the town you're at is. 4. If you use this method, you'd also save alot from the interbank exchange rates. Money changers will charge you much, much more compared to a bank. I've been using this method countless of times before and so far, no ATM machines in this world have failed me.... Yes, even at the remotest village in Africa or China! :-)) Have a great trip! Photo Below: This pic is taken from North Sydney. Can you see the lovely Sydney Harbor Bridge (partially hidden) in the background? Hm! 'While armchair travelers dream of going places, traveling armchairs dream of staying put!' - Anne Tyler

  • You can get by easily in Sydney with mainly casual stuff unless you will be working... A all weather jacket would be good... one basic black outfit will take you anywhere :-)

    Sunscreen!!! lots

if you are planning a working holiday it is fairly easy to get work.... remember to bring resume and references with you.
