Don't forget the binoculars and sun protection!

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Sydney isn't as cold as I thought it would be in late winter/early spring, and it's also much more casual than I expected. Bring layers of clothing to use in cooler weather, and leave the fancy stuff at home, unless you really plan to dress up.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: The motto is "Slip, Slop, Slap!" Slip into a shirt, slop on the sunscreen, and slap on a hat! All the Australian children wear hats as part of their school uniforms, and they're being trained early for a reason. That ozone hole is up there, meaning that this part of the world has less protection from the SUN'S HARMFUL UV RAYS! And even though I have lived in hot climates for a long time, and my husband is Egyptian..... we BOTH notice that the sun irritates and reddens our skin, even if we're just driving in the car for the day! The sun just feels different here in ways I can't describe. So don't risk cancerous melanoma.... USE THAT SHIRT, SUNSCREEN, AND HAT!

Photo Equipment: All VT'ers need a digital camera!

Miscellaneous: I'm listing binoculars here, because they can not only be used to spot whales and dolphins in the ocean, koalas and birds in the trees, or kangaroos and wombats in the bush, but they can be used at the opera house when you're far from the stage! I wish I had brought my binoculars!

Luggage and bags: backpack with good sized day pack for your togs and towel and suncream and camera etc...

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: sandals cause it is very hot in the summer and can also get pretty cold in the winter from may to august so you want to not be wearing sandals at these times.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: 15+ suncream and above definitely. There is nothing funnier to an australian than a burnt pom walking around with his shirt hanging out of his shorts! and it really hurts the next day.

Photo Equipment: the light is really good in australia for some lovely photos, get a solariser to take away the glare though cause it is very bright. the more photos the merrier.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: if you go camping on the beach you will need insect repelant.. the horse flies are bastards, huge and nasty bites, they are also territorial, so just as you kill one another will come. kill kill kill.

Luggage and bags: If your on a long haul flight take plenty of reading matter, theres only so many movies you can stand!

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: The neck support rests that you can buy from Airport terminals look invaluable, I saw several people managing to get a few hours kip while we were unable to due to aches and pains!

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Plenty of Mosquito repellent! Plenty of Sun Tan Lotion (see Pic)

Photo Equipment: Digital camera very useful, for VT users!

Miscellaneous: It gets pretty hot during summer so pack light, and carry lots of bottled water. And don't forget to slip on a shirt, slop on some sunscreen, and slap on a hat. I hope you enjoy your stay in Sydney as much as I do living here.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: If you are going to visit a Sydney beach or will be out and about on a sunny day, I highly recommend you bring a hat and sunscreen - regularly re-applied. The Aussie sun is much harsher that most climates!

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Good strong walking shoes or boots if you plan to hike or walk in the mountains.
A sun hat is very necessary and something to cover up in the sun as it gets very hot in the bush.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Buy your sun protection in Australia, there is so much choice and they have higher protection factors there.
