Petar's Seafood: Seafood Restaurant on the shores of Botany Bay
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Petar's Seafood Restaurant is located within food throwing distance of Brighton Le Sands Beach overlooking Botany Bay. Not that I've ever wanted to throw a steak that far... but you could from here because it is so close to the beach. But I still wouldn't recommend turfing you unwanted food items across the road because littering is a serious offence.

Anyway, I'm not here to talk about hurling your food because it is too delicious to waste on a test of strength. So please take a seat and order some fresh seafood or a tasty steak and wash it down with some great local wine. I ordered a WA wine as it was the featured wine of the week.

I didn't eat all the meals that I've added pictures for because I roped my colleagues into photographing their food for me. That was a new concept for them but as you can see they humoured me anyway.

The restaurant wasn't expecting a large group to just walk in without a booking but as Tuesday night's are usually quiet anyway they had no problem with finding us some seats. But when a second group of colleagues walked in later we started to stretch their resources and I heard them quickly arranging more staff to cope with demand.

All this transpired fairly seemlessly and we were able to enjoy a great night out with some superb Mediterannean food.

Open seven days a week for lunch and dinner.

    Lunch: Mon-Sat 12:00pm- 2:30pm
    Dinner: Mon- Sat 5.30pm – 10.30pm

    Sun 12:00pm- 3:00pm
    Sun 5:30pm-10: 30pm

The restaurant is fully licensed or BYO.

I really enjoyed the Char grilled Haloumi Cheese as an entree followed by a juicy Steak Dianne cooked to perfection. Al this was washed down with a "Mad Fish" wine from WA. An appropriate wine for a seafood restaurant!

    Coogee Restaurants: A Coogee Institution
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Barzura has been a favourite with the locals since 1994. Offering both indoor and outdoor dinning, this restaurant has a casual feel and is buzzing from breakfast until well into the night. Situated at the south end of Coogee Beach, Barzura offers uninterupted views across the beach.

Breakfast is served from 7am to 1pm so there is no need to get up too early to enjoy your favourite breakkie foods.

If you are not feeling too hungry, but would still like to enjoy a delicious snack, Barzura serves up Barzura Bites from 7am to 7pm.

For lunch and dinner you can select from the menu or from the Specials Board which is updated each Thursday fortnight. Three courses will average around A$50.00 p/p.

Barzura is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee and cocktails from 7am, 7 days a week. Fully licensed or BYO wine.

At breakfast don't miss the Cornfritters with bacon, tomato and advocado - A$12.50.

For a lunchtime treat I have not found a better Nasi Goreng anywhere else in Sydney - A$15.50.

Two delicious choices for dinner are the Grilled Kangaroo Rump with redcurrent jus - A$21.50 (remember, Kangaroo is best eaten rare) and the Seared Salmon Fillet with braised fennel - A$24.00.

Darling Harbour / Cockle Bay Restaurants: A floating South African Steakhouse
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Located on a large boat, this isn't really a South African restaurant, its more like a steakhouse that offers international, Australian, and South African accented dishes in about equal proportions. Its a very nice experience if you like fine dining without the exorbitant costs associated with Darling Harbour. Drinks and meals came to about A$80. The service is excellent and the view spectacular.

Steak, but they do seafood quite well also.

Western Suburbs Restaurants: A Yummy Find
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • When we got off the boat in Parramatta it seemed as if the enitre city had shut down. We wandered down Charles Street and came upon the "Rouge" coffeehouse. With our hungry appetites we went it.

A small art deco place, the smell of coffee filled the air. The owners were tending the customers and it seemed that quite a few locals frequent this place. We are of the mind set, if the locals go here it's got to be good.

A enjoyable dish to try is the Cajun Chicken Filo wrap and my husband had the spinach and feta cheese pop over.

We also tried the white hot chocolate and a caffe latte. Delicioso!

Bar Quattro is an elegant Italian cafe situated on the edge of the northern portion of Hyde Park.

It is a place to see and be seen and with its large outdoor seating it is an excellent place to kick back and enjoy an espresso and a touch of gelati, whilst watching people play with the giant chess set on the grounds of the park adjacent.

It has a large and varied menu of light meals, snacks and salads with an extensive array of desserts. The cafe is also fully licensed so those wanting a stiffer drink are also well catered to with some great Australian wines on offer.

Basically I only really came here for the excellent espressos and lattes, and the occasional slice of moist, dark chocolate cake! Yum!

The rest of the menu also looked very nice and purely on sight alone, I would definitely recommend it!

Bar Quattro service is very efficient and polite.

Darling Harbour / Cockle Bay Restaurants: cheap food courts
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • there are sooo many restaurants in darling harbor/cockle bay, which can be quite pricey. if your really on the cheap, there is a food court in darling harbor called 'harborside'. a food court is basically a whole lot of eateries in the one complex, with tables in the middle for patrons to sit down. at the harborside i had a yummy mexican meal, while my friend went to the good old KFC (heart attack food). its cheap, less pretentious, and more travel orientated.

    nachos!

Sydney Harbour Dining: Tasty Lunch with a View
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • As my parents and I strolled along the walk back from our Opera House tour, this little place caught our attention (there was a picture of a bread bowl salad). The weather was great and they had tables outside with a wonderful view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, so we stopped in. We were all very satisfied with the food and the great service. It is a great stop when you're touring around the Opera House. I couldn't find a website or phone number for it, but it is easy to find. Just check out the sign in the picture - it is right next to the movie theater there, too.

I had the yummy looking meat salad in a bread bowl pictured! I really enjoyed it and the concept of the bread bowl. There were several salad choices that came in a bread bowl, so I am sure you would find one to your liking. My dad had a pasta dish that was also tasty.

  • Gnocchi with Veal. October 16, 2007 - Sydney
    Gnocchi with Veal. October

We had walked past this place several times before we finally stopped in. After all it is just a couple doors down from the Simpson’s. Each and every time it was jammed packed. Always so busy, breakfast lunch and dinner, that one wondered if a table could be had.

A fairly dark place they have the menu written up on a blackboard in Italian. They come around and seem to take joy in having to explain it all to you. So they did seem disappointed when we knew what we wanted and ordered it without the whole thing needing to be explained. After all, especially with food, language is often without need of translation.

They sport themselves a rather decent wine list which seems to be the norm in this section of town. The service is quite good and they do not seem to be in any rush to make you leave. Both times we ate here we had to ask for the bill to come and still it took some time. And truth be told, I like that in a place. Nothing worse than paying for a meal out and being rushed right out because you’re not eating or drinking enough.

The first time she ordered the Gnocchi with Veal and I was to have the Lasagna. I found out after we ate that the lasagna is one of their signature dishes. I can completely understand why. It was very good and just what I needed after a very long and hard day that had started on the beach in 95 degree weather and was ending back in this wonderful neighborhood with temps in the mid 50s. I didn’t even mind that their lasagna has meat in it. I normally do not like it in mine, but theirs is quite good and as I said, just what I needed. We also had a salad to share.

The second time we were here we thought we’d get her the gnocchi again and were surprised to find that the menu had changed. I don’t know if they could have or would have made it anyway as she decided on the Risotto, which much to her surprise she enjoyed very much and has already recreated in the first couple days home in New York. This time I had the Tagliatelle. I however did not expect what I got, based on an improperly named dish at a different restaurant. But hey, surprises are not a bad thing. I enjoyed it very much. We once again decided to skip their desert and go to Yellow around the corner before heading back home.

  • PJ O’Brien’s is one of the places I would hang out when I was here in 2005. My latest visit had us stop in here for a pub dinner. A nice multi level bar in the famous Grace Hotel they also serve a decent menu.

For dinner this day we both went simply with the burger. For about $15 each they offer up a decent burger easily paired with a schooner of your favorite beer.

This is also a place to watch sports from around the world all day long.
