Sailors Thai Canteen: Thai in the Rocks
Thai restaurants are everywhere in Sydney. Newtown for example has at least a dozen in one street but this one is extra special. Great for travellers as no reservation is required but turnover is pretty quick so you wont have to wait too long. Open 12pm-9pm daily. There are a few outdoor tables but most seating is indoor at a long communal table. The owner, David Thompson, is the most famous thai chef in Australia and the food is unbelievable!
Favorite Dish: Pad Thai is my favourite also love the green Paw Paw salad
Cafe Sydney: Spectacular views in Sydney
Cafe Sydney has one of the best views you could possibly ask for in Sydney - it is located right opposite the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It has an outdoor terrace dining area which is fabulous, particularly on a warm balmy night. One Friday nights from 10pm they have live Jazz playing. Entrees about $26, mains about $34
Favorite Dish: The Oysters I had here were up with the best I have ever tasted!
The Gummy Tea Garden: The Gummy Tea Garden
This small tearoom is found in 'The Rocks' section of Sydney. I had breakfast here the last day before I headed home. I have no idea if it still exists.
But there are many other places to eat in The Rocks -- from cafes and bars to gourmet restaurants. You won't go hungry in Australia! In fact I found the food unbelievably fresh until a friend explained to me that it was all grown within a 100 or so miles of the coast -- so it didn't have to travel far! Even the food on Ansett Airways was fresh:)
The Lord Nelson.: The Lord Nelson.
Fantastic old world feel in the Rocks in general and in this pub in particular. They brew some of the best beers in Australia too with my favorite, the Old Admiral.
Favorite Dish: Ploughman's Plate with authentic 'damper,' a tradtional Aussie bread.
Best friends for life! That's...
Best friends for life! That's us (me... and my best buddies who are also VT members) having a wonderful dinner by The Rocks here in Sydney. Ah yes, we love dining at this particular area tremendously. :-)
Lowenbru Pub/Restaurant: Great Atmosphere
Great Atmosphere, good food, and great german beer
The staff are all in German Attire which adds more atmosphere as well.
Favorite Dish: Its all good
The Cook House: Do it yourself...
Here you buy your raw meat by the kilo and then grill it yourself in the big oven in the wall... It's fun and quite popular.
Favorite Dish: The meat... very fresh.
Capitan Torres: Great Spanish style seafood
Really enjoyed this place on Liverpool st, great seafood and service. Recommended.
Favorite Dish: I had a whole snapper, and loved it, great place for fish lovers.
I fondly remember the restaurants at The Rocks with views of the harbour and the Endeavour ship. Go check them out!
