The Rocks and Circular Quay Restaurants: Cheep as chips
  • Satisfaction:
  • The food was... well what you pay for I guess. I’ve heard some bad reviews of this place but it was not all that bad. For a quick BBQ style meal this place is ok. Prices are one of the lowest around. But hey, you get what you pay for. A great budget meal though.

You don't get too many choices from this place. It either bbq, bbq or bbq something I had the BBQ chicken, it wasn't something to write home about but it was ok

The Rocks and Circular Quay Restaurants: Excellent views, great food, trendy !!!!!
  • Satisfaction:
  • This is a must for the trendy and high end crowds.....Located on the 3rd floor in The Overseas Pasenger Terminal in Circular Quay above Doyles restaurant....Quay has everything a perfect night is suppose to be about.....but be warned the prices are extremely high for this place.......and the portions are small considering the prices the plates go for......most of the tables face the world famous Sydney opera house and look down at the numberous ferries going and coming into Circular Quay. The menu is simple but yet elegant in it's explantion of dishes. The wine list is long and pricey...and the desserts are to die for but again pricey !!! $20 AU for dessert, I thought it was just a bit too high and when our bill came....well let's say...we ate at some other places (see my other tips) for about half the price......but the food here was awesome to say the least !!!! If you could pluck down $300 AU for dinner .....DO IT !!! YOU WON'T REGRET IT....but if you can't then there is no need coming close to this place !!!! If this place was a bit cheaper...it would be PERFECT !!!! so I would give it an 8 out of 10...and mostly because of the cost !!!!! otherwise PERFECT !!!!!

Pan seared cod fish, with scallops, grilled octopus $47 AU a plate !!!!! but boy it's the best cod fish I have ever tasted !!!!

The Rocks and Circular Quay Restaurants: Walsh Bay
  • Satisfaction:
  • Dine al fresco with a Modern Australian feel. At quiet walsh bay, go after 2pm so you miss the local lunch hour rush.

We had Spinach and Feta Filo and Tuna Pasta Salad. Very nice spot.

The Rocks and Circular Quay Restaurants: Shiki's
  • Satisfaction:
  • Shiki's is a Japanese and sushi restaurant at The Rocks area. It came recommended from the Concierge and the cab driver told me it was famous. Some tables had a great view of the harbor. I choose the sushi bar. I was completely disappointed and overcharged for low quality sushi. The rice was poorly made - it wasn't rinsed enough prior to cooking and was too heavy on the vinegar. They also made gargantuan roles almost made completely of the vinegar laden rice. In the dragon role, there was just sliver of eel and huge portion of what I think was tofu. Half way through the meal I got a strong nose full of fish - a sure sign of a scary place to eat raw fish. I had better sushi from the take away shops that sold pre-made roles. There are plenty of those around Sydney.

    None.

In the shadow of the Sydney opera House and the Harbour bridge this cafe is in a really prime position. The food may cost a little more, but it's an excellent place to soak up the views, and watch the hustle and bustle of the ferries leaving and arriving at Circular Quay. Nice chill out zone and good seafood.

The Rocks and Circular Quay Restaurants: Lively Belgium Beer Cafe
  • Satisfaction:
  • The Belgium Beer Cafe, located near The Rocks area is a popular bar and excellent restaurant. I went there with work colleagues on Tuesday night before Anzac Holiday. It was much like a weekend night as the bar was 4 deep and tables were full the entire night. The vibe was great, but it did make it difficult to hear conversation from our entire group of 6. This is not the place for a quiet meal. The food is excellent; their specialties include the mussels - which are fabulous. The chips, perfectly crispy, are served non-stop from the kitchen with the typical Belgium mayonnaise. I had the kangaroo - grilled to the recommended medium rare with a lovely sauce. The potatoes and vegetables served along side were flat and uneventful. The service was extremely slow for beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic). The waiter apologized several times due to the slow service from the bar - as it was incredibly busy. But still, we went thirsty at various times throughout the evening. I was delighted that our waiter completed the Belgium experience with his cheeky comments delivered with that uniquely Belgium way.

The Rocks and Circular Quay Restaurants: If you're in a hurry....
  • Satisfaction:
  • Let's be frank : the Circular Quay restaurants are nothing special : they are mainly touristic places with less than average food for more expensive than average prices. However it's handy and open till late in the evening. Some of the restaurant at The Rocks are somewhat better: nicer places and better food (but still expensive)

The Rocks and Circular Quay Restaurants: Cafe Sydney - a letdown
  • Satisfaction:
  • I was looking forward to going to this restaurant, recommended by a friend, but was disappointed with the actual experience. Granted, there are great views of the Sydney Opera House, but only if you get a decent table near the window. We went as a big group, and they only allowed us to have the set menu because of the size of our group, and the menu was pricey at a cost of $110 per person, with very limited choices. You couldn't choose the appetizer, it was set at cold seafood platter, there were 3 choices for mains; steak, fish or veggie, and 2 choices for dessert. The service was unbelievably slow, it took us about 3 hours to complete our meal, so slow in that even before dessert were served, some friends were thinking of leaving already becuase they had an early start at work the next day. The food itself was presented nicely, but with the long long gaps between each course, we were struggling to eat our food as we were feeling full already. If I had been able to order a la carte from this place and with a faster service, I would probably have enjoyed this dining experience a lot more.
