    The Gong Ride

by iandsmith Written Nov 6, 2011
Some of the riders at Stanwell Tops

The Gong ride goes from Sydney Park at St. Peters, an inner suburb, all the way to the southern city of Wollongong. Total distance is around 90 kms and each year 10,000 people join in for the event. I say that number confidently because the number is limited. The event is so popular that it's not advertised and they always have more enquiries than places.
The course has changed over the years but the distance hasn't.
It's well organized generally and police protected all the way with heaps of rest stops.
Many of the people who ride the event have obviously never tried that distance in their lives and are ill equipped to do such deeds. Others are fully trained up and not only go all the way there but ride back as well!
It takes place on the first weekend in November.

Equipment: Make sure your bike is well prepared; have pre ride maintenance done and make sure you take sufficient fluids or frequently stop en route to top up.
You should have ridden at least two thirds the distance in a single training ride before you attempt the event.

Cycling & Blading in Centennial Park

Centennial Park... great escape from the city

Centennial Park is over 500 acres of lush gardens, sports fields, lakes & cycle paths.

As a resident of sydney (and its close to my house) this is something I do at least twice a week. I love to go cycling around the circumference of the park. One full circuit is about 3km. Serious cyclists are always there early morning. Families and leisure cyclists are there on the weekends during the day.

The Centennial Park Cafe is often crowded on weekends, but a mobile canteen between the lakes in the middle of the park serves snacks and espresso. Bikes and blades can be rented from the nearby Clovelly Road outlets, on the eastern side of the park. www.cp.nsw.gov.au

Its also a great place to relax or picnic with friends and family. Don't forget to take some bread to feed the ducks!

A little paradise, so close to the city.

Equipment: You don't need your own bike or blades, as they can be rented from Clovelly Road bike rental store.

    Volleyball at Manly Beach

by amyhenderson Written Mar 15, 2004

Manly Beach has a host of built-in Volleyball nets. In Summer, its quite popular, mostly with foreigners as its not such a big sport in Australia. In Winter its not so crowed, but its popular as long as the sunshine is out.

Equipment: Remember to take your own ball.

Whether you preferred mode of physical exertion is jogging, blading, cycling or a leisurely stroll, Sydney has plenty of opportunities.
Take advantage of the vast amount of waterfronts and discover beautiful scenery whilst doing some exercise.

    Long Reef Golf Course

You would definitely have a relaxing game of golf on this course and you could be forgiven for taking a long time to go a round too.

Equipment: Equipment is easy to come by here if you don't bring your own.
