    Sydney has great beaches along the north & east coast of Sydney (South too, but its generally further to travel & are not as renknown).

    Some of the most famous surfing beaches are Narrabeen, Dee Why & Manly in the North. Maroubra, Coogee & Bondi in the East. Amongst many others. So if you like surfing & cities, you'll enjoy yourself in Sydney.

    If you end up at Narrabeen, watch out for territorial surfers...

    Australia is awesome for watersports and there are dozens of beaches along the Sydney area coast including the most famous - Bondi Beach!

    My friend whose flat we were sitting over Christmas and New Year's had a couple of Boogie boards that he let us use - he'd taken his surf board with him on holiday, which is just as well as I've only ever managed to go in a wobbly straight line!

    Anyway, what better way to enjoy the scorching sunny days than to take a dip in the waters!

    Remember though to have plenty of waterproof sunscreen cos this part of the world is distinctly ozone free and therefore you can get hideously burnt in 0 seconds flat!

    Also remember to stay within the flags to avoid the nasty rips, stay away from the rocks (one guy was in the news for breaking his back on the rocks whilst surfing while we were there!) and watch out for those pesky sharks - if they get your arm you can only swim in circles, which isn't good for getting out to the really good waves! ;-)

    The suburb Dee Why is North of the center of Sydney. The beach of Dee Why is maybe not the most famous one, but it's the beach where Jeroen learned how to surf on a regular board and a bodyboard.

    It's just a small and nice sandy beach where all facilities for food and drinks are available.

    At the time we were surfing (April / May), do put on a wet suite!

    It`s Australia so the thing to do is hit the beach and go surfing. There are plenty of places to go too.
    During a reception in Perth our friends Jen and Michael tossed us the keys to their apartment in Manly and told us to have fun `there`s a surf board in the kitchen, enjoy yourselves` well we went to the beach but we didn`t surf, we had a good look around the shops though. Thanks guys!

  • Surfing at Bondi Beach is a common thing, and there always seems to be a good tide, we went quite late and there were STILL surfers there!
