Sydney most visible icon with a height of 304 m is the Sydney Tower, formerly known as Centrepoint Tower or AMP Tower that serves as both a communications tower and as a tourist facility. The Centrepoint Tower project began in late 1970 and it started with the construction of a sixteen level reinforced concrete building. The building was completed in 1974 that accommodated shops and offices. The construction of the tower itself started with the prefabrication of the 46-barrel units that formed the shaft. The diameter of the units is 6.7 m and the weight is 27 tonnes. The turret is an eight-level welded steel frame structure that was manufactured at the base of the shaft. As the shaft progressed the turret was raised up. The bottom part of the spire was erected in as the shaft progresses. The second part of the spire was erected when the tower structure was completed. The spire is made of 56 cables those weights 7 tonnes each. Total weight of the tower is 40,000 tonnes.

AMP Tower by Gypsystravels Take a ride to the top of Sydney Tower and photograph the many panoramic views from up here. On a clear day you can see as far as Botany Bay to the North Shore and the Blue Mountains. With revolving restaurants and a coffe shoppe you are sure to get some fantastic views of the City of Sydney. There is a 162,000-litre tank above the observation deck which acts as a stabilizer on windy days. There is a "skywalk" which is a guided tour around the roof for those that are brave enough. We didn't get a chance to climb to the top of the tower on this trip. We opted instead on having lunch at the "Summit" a 5* restaurant that revolves located at Australia Square, 44th floor. the tower by willy_wonka the centrepoint tower stands out wherever you are in the city. a prominent building in the sydney skyline, you can take the lift up to the top observatory and take in the sweeping views that go out for miles. for $22 you also get to take the "skytour" which is where you sit in this chair that shakes and rattles, and it feels like your flying over sydney. it's pretty cool! allow for a few hours if you plan to do both the observation deck and the skytour. View from top of the tower by martin_nl When you want to see all of Sydney in one view make sure you head to the AMP Tower. The entrance you can find on Market Street in the Centre Point Building. Entrance prices are quite steep, but your ticket isn't only valid to get up high in the tower from where you have grand views even as far as the Blue Mountains on clear days, but the ticket will also give you an experience. There is a special tour that will take you around some of the highlights of Australia. After seeing this, you want to travel around Australia as soon as you can. I went into the tower on one of the last days of my visit and I felt sad after seeing all the videos in this virtual tour. It really takes you around almost all of Australia!! This is a great attraction, so don't miss out! Leave a Comment Address: Market StreetDirections: Entrance on Market Street. Enter the Centrepoint building.

A Sydney sunset! by Mairo21 The Sydney tower is one of the tallest structures in Sydney. It has the highest observation deck in the Southern hemisphere and offers awsome 360 degree views of the city. I'm sure you could take some great sunrise pictures here, but I wouldn't know because my friend and I went in the evening. I thought that was the best time to go. You can watch an amazing sunset and watch the city light up. There is also some type of informative tour that you can take that is quite fun. It ends with a virtual type ride! For splendid views over Sydney you must go up the tower! It's certainly not cheap with a ticket price of 23,50 AU$ (there are some discount voucher in several tourist brochures), but it's definitely worth it on a sunny & clear day. Included in the ticket price is the admission to Oz Trek, a simulated ride across Australia. If you're brave enough, you can have a walk on top of the restaurant/observation section of the tower. The tower which was completed in 1981 is 305 m tall with the observation deck at 250m. Leave a Comment

AMP Centerpoint Bldg, Sydney by pchamlis The AMP Centerpoint Tower is the highest building in the Southern Hemisphere. Therefore, seeing it is pretty easy. It's that extremely tall pointy thing with a little building piece in the middle. : ) The tower is over 300 meters tall, and on a clear day, you can see, in addition to all of Sydney, all the way to the Blue Mountains! Don't worry, there IS an elevator, so you'll not have to take the stairs, should you choose to ascend the tower. The cost, if I remember exactly, for an adult entry is A$15. For your money, you'll get a terrific view of Sydney. And although A$15 isn't cheap, it's less than climbing the Harbour Bridge. ; ) There are restaurants and various stores at the base of the AMP Centerpoint Tower. Sydney Tower by FlyingShanice The Sydney Tower is ranked as one of the safest buildings in the world. The design has made the tower capable of withstanding earthquakes and extreme wind conditions. 56 cables stabilise the tower, and if the strands of these cables were laid end to end, they would reach from Sydney to Alice Springs, or from Sydney to New Zealand Leave a Comment Address: 100 Market StreetPhone: 92319300

by RedEaredPanda If you’ve got a head for heights, a visit to Centrepoint Tower - Sydney’s tallest building - is a must. Towering 300m above the city, Centrepoint Tower offers magnificent views that extend to the Central Coast to the north, Wollongong to the south and the Blue Mountains to the west. There is also a great Restaurant on top floor which spins around while you're dining. You get to experience Sydney from way high above the city and eat excellent food. We tried Crocodile meat while we were there. Very Chewy!! Leave a Comment Address: Enter From Market StreetPhone: 02 9231 9300

View of City and Monorail by Marpessa The AMP Tower is a 300m tall 'needle-shaped' tower. It has awesome views of all of Sydney. They have free tours, where the tour-guide will point out that; circular quay is not circular, central station is not central, and that Australia Square is cylindrical. Definitely worth it!! Just be warned that when you buy your ticket to go up the tower - it is double ended, so that you may go up to the observation deck (and restaurant), and to see the skytour show - which gives a sound and visual show of what has made Australia.... Australia. So don't be like me and buy two tickets - when you only need one! Open: Sun-Fri: 9am - 10.30pm Sat: 9am - 11.30pm Has good wheelchair access. Leave a Comment Address: Centrepoint Shopping Mall, Cnr Market & Pitt Sts.Phone: 9231 9300Directions: Central Sydney.
