AMP Building / Centre Point: A Virtual Tour of Australia in the Sydney Tower
  • Tip Rating:
  • For $22 per adult, you receive admission to a virtual tour in which you watch and listen to information about Australia's history, and are taken on a "ride" (with moving seats and all) through various parts of Australia, starting with a climb over the Sydney Harbour Bridge, a stroll on Bondi Beach, a dive in the Great Barrier Reef, a too-close for comfort encounter with the jaws of a crocodile, a view of Uluru, and many other lovely locations. The information is provided in several Asian languages as well as in English. Also included in that price is entry to the Observation Tower from which you are able to look at the city of Sydney, and as far as the horizon (on a clear day you can see the distant Blue Mountains in the west). You have a full 360 degree view.

  • The AMP Tower is distinctive on the Sydney skyline. It may not be the most attractive of such towers, but it is becoming as well known as the Opera House and Harbour Bridge as synonymous with the city. A trip to the top is as much part of a trip to Sydney as is the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Empire State Building in NY. It ain't cheap though at A$22, although entrance includes Virtual 3D trip through the highlights of Australia.

AMP Building / Centre Point: AMP Tower
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Sydney Tower takes you to the highest point above Sydney Australia for breathtaking 360-degree views of this beautiful harbour city. Enjoy spectacular Sydney views, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour, with free telescopes and free guided tour on Observation Deck. The Tower was in a restricted zone during my short visit which happened to coincide with the 2007 APEC Summit.

As is my norm when I get to a new city a quick elevation to the highest point was a priority in Sydney. That highest point is'nt to hard to spot for pretty obvious reasons. Went early Sunday morning and there were no queue's of any note, lift up to the top in no time at all. On reaching the top the panoramic views of Sydneys most famous sites is certainly worth making the effort for. Watching the planes land is fun, you are about the same altitude as many of them and watching the airport is like watching some kind of toy town. You can spot the Aussie Olympic Stadium in the distance one way and easily see the Northern Beach suburbs in the other, guess you can see for miles and miles on a clear Sunny day, of which Sydney has more than its fair share. I notice now you can actually go outside at the top on the SkyWalk, no doubt they will charge you extra for that though.

  • The AMP Centrepoint Tower is a telecommunications mast with an observation deck at the 305 metre point. In 2000 there were three large artistic, athletic structures celebrating Sydney Olympics. The 305 metres high Observation Deck is the highest observation deck in the Southern Hemisphere. On a clear day you can see all the way to the Blue Mountains. An adult ticket to the observation deck will cost you $10.

AMP Building / Centre Point: The AMP Sydney Tower: See Sydney from above!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Look down at the city from the highest point above the city for a breathtaking 360-degree panorama. On a good day, the view is well worth the visit up. The tacky part of the visit is that the price of the ticket also includes "OzTrek", supposedly the largest simulated ride in the southern hemisphere, for a so-claimed thrilling virtual adventure across Australia. I think the kids may find this entertaining. As from what I seen on the website, coming July 2005, there will also be a "skywalk" ala the one already offered by Macau Tower whereby guests can get all strap up and embark on an outdoor walk at 268 metres above Sydney. GETTING THERE Walking: Within the city, corner of Pitt & Market Street. Bus: Sydney Explorer Bus Stop 14 Ferry: Ferries from Circular Quay Monorail: City Centre Station Train: Town Hall Station OPENING HOURS Sunday to Friday: 9:00am to 10:30pm Saturday: 9:00am to 11:30pm PRICING Tickets include a visit to the Observation Deck at Sydney Tower and admission to OzTrek. Adults $22.00* Child (4-15 years) $13.20* Under 4 years FREE Seniors $15.00* Concession $16.50* Family Tickets Available Family Ticket A 1 adult & 2 children $39.00* Family Ticket B 2 adults & 1 child $45.90* Family Ticket C 2 adults & 2 children $57.00* Family Ticket D 2 adults & 3 children $67.00*

AMP Building / Centre Point: AMP Tower
  • Tip Rating:
  • Change its name after its sponsor, AMP, a large insurance company, it is an important Sydney landmark. I suggest the ride up to the top is the first thing you do in Sydney. As you will know where all attractions are and its proximity. Unfortunately, one high rise blocks the view of the Opera House; other than that, you see it all. One ride costs A$21, but for A$29 you get up to the top again during the night.

AMP Building / Centre Point: Over the top views of Sydney.
  • Tip Rating:
  • Upon meeting hailun at the steps of Sydney Town Hall on Saturday 26 July 2003, she immediately led me towards the AMP Tower also known as Sydney Tower. This was the start of my official tour days at the city. With a coupon on her hand which allowed us to buy tower tickets for A$22 for the price of 2, we first joined the flock of sightseers to the Skytour: The Great Australian Expedition, a virtual tour that depicts the expedition in magnificent laser beams. Then we feast our eyes with the panoramic view at the uppermost part of the tower. For those who felt tired and hungry afterwards, two revolving restaurants awaited them just a floor down from the observation deck. The Sydney Tower is open from 9am-10.30pm daily. It is located at 100 Market Street.

When we arrived at Sydney we immediately noted this large tower. Asking around learned us that is has some different names. We heared Sydney Tower, AMP Tower, AMP Centrepoint Tower, Centrepoint Tower or just Centrepoint. But anyway, we had our minds set on visiting it! When we arrived by ferry at Circular Quay we had a clear view at it and it looked quite close. It still surprised us that it took us a strenous walk to get there :) Why did we want to visit it? Well relatives told us that the AMP Tower offers a fabulous 360 degree view of the entire Sydney metropolitan area of some 600 square miles from the tallest observation deck in the Southern hemisphere. On a very clear day you can even see as far as the Blue Mountains. The Tower is about 325 meters high and therefore the tallest building of Australia and you can't think of Sydneys skyline without it. Reasons enough we guess?

AMP Building / Centre Point: THE AMP TOWER
  • Tip Rating:
  • another great Sydney landmarkthis 305m tall tower has the highest observation deck in the southern hemisphere, and its said that on a clear day you can see the Blue Mountains 100km away, l have no idea if this is true, it was raining so much we could scarcely see across the street, so we gave the tower a miss it costs $19.80 to go up the tower, this includes admission to the Skytour, a virtual ride, there are also revolving restaurants, it takes about 70 minutes for the tower to complete a revolution so chew slowly if you want to get all the way around the tower is open daily from 9.30 to 22.30 [ Saturdays 23.30 ]
