    A good way to start your australia trip is to go on the amp tower. You get an offer of two things. First you can get on the tower and get a great view of Sydney. Secondly there's is some sort of cinematic experience with moving chairs which shows you some spots in Australia. I can't help feeling this last thing is a very touristy thing to do, but it was fun.

  • Awesome views but for a high price, $25 each. Gave the ride a miss which was included in the ticket as had a 2yr old who wouldn't have appreciated it. Would not recommend as a must see but if you have the cash and time it is OK. Doesn't compare with the Skytower on Auckland which is fantastic, this place could learn a thing or two.

    Before you can enjoy the breathtaking view of Sydney and its surrounds from the largest observation deck of the Southern Hemisphere you will experience Skytour - The Great Australian Expedition. Skytour is a virtual journey through Australia: 1. Audio adventure - in a shaded room you will hear typical sounds of the australian bush 2. Holographic journey through cities, bushland and deserts 3. A virtual adventure travel for all senses - on huge screens landscapes move by, the visitors' seats shake, you can smell the eucalypts We did not manage to find out whether it is possible to visit the observation deck without going through the Skytour. We like the Skytour a lot but we don't want to experience the multi-sensory adventure each time we only want to take pictures of this wonderful city. Facts: The 305 m high AMP Tower's turret is fixed by 56 cables, each weighing 7 tons. The tower itself weighs 2.239 tons. One of the floors contains a 162.000 litre water tank which serves as a counterbalance to the wind gusts. Restaurants: After having enjoyed the stunning views of Port Jackson in the north, the Pacific Ocean in the east, Botany Bay in the south and the Blue Mountains in the west it could be a great idea to have lunch or dinner in one of the two rotating restaurants.

    Centrepoint tower is one of the main tourist attractions in Sydney (along with the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge) and it is definately worth a look. For $22 you get a magnificent view of the city and you also get a virtual tour of Australia. The lift takes you 250m above ground level, to the top of the tower, where you can see the whole of Sydney laid out before you. The view really is fantastic, and when you have had enough, you can take the lift back down to the ground and go on the virtual tour of Australia, which is something very different. But don't worry if you don't have time to do it all in one day, your ticket is valid for 6 months, so you can come and do it another time.

    During the Olympic Games this tower was adorned with 3 wonderful sculptures of athletes. Sadly, like so much of our consumable world, they are no longer visible here, having been flogged off at auction. However, as you'll notice elsewhere, they have gained a home at the appropriate Olympic complex in western Sydney. Still, we have the tower resplendent with revolving restaurant still poking through gaps in the other high rise buildings. This odd angle is taken over a navy ship, which is the grey thing with ropes hanging over it, down in the Wooloomooloo (don't you just love those aboriginal names) area to the east of the CBD.
