Manly is one of my favourite places in Sydney. To get there is an adventure in itself. You have to take the Manly ferry from the ferry terminal in Circular Quay. In 30-40 minutes you will arrive at Manly Wharf. There is a lovely hotel there with a terrace where you can sit outside with a cold drink to enjoy the view of the harbour. After the drink make your way through the shopping street to reach the beach. It's beautiful here trust me on this one. But I'm not the only one who thinks that, since Manly is one of the most popular beaches in the city. You can play some volleybal here with the locals or simply bake in the sun and ride the waves either on a surfboard or a bodyboard, or you can of course use your own body to surf the waves! After a day of lazing about you can make your way back again to the shopping street for some surf wear shopping and back to the hotel for a nice drink. Try and take a ferry back around sunset or simply watch the sunset from the terrace!! Leave a Comment

Bondi Beach is quite famous with Australians and visitors alike. I love the atmosphere at Bondi. You have a great, clean beach nestled between two cliffs full of townhouses. Along the foreshore are a myriad of retaurants. It is the place to be if you are young and beautiful. I went anyway :o). There are a number of walks that you can take around Bondi, or you can sit on the beach and relax. There are activities all year round, many of them are centered around the Pavilion. From kite flying and surfing competitions, to festivals, markets and galleries. Leave a Comment

Manly should be on your must see list. You can get there by ferry/hydrofoil from Sydney Harbour. Manly has an underwater world for the kids and a lovely beach. It also has lots of quaint shops in the corso and the atmosphere there is warm and friendly. We loved buying an ice cream at the shop at the end of the corso just before the beach and taking it over the road to sit and eat and watch the waves. My favourite flavours are bubblegum (kakky green colour haha) and licourice (totally black yum yum ). The kababs at Manly are yummy too. Do not miss going to Manly by ferry/hydrofoil. Leave a Comment

I haven't been to all the beaches - that would be tough since there are heaps of them - but I can tell you about a few good ones. Bondi Beach (pronounced bone-dye): This is one of the most famous beaches. It is amazingly popular with both Aussies and tourists. It's really big, clean, and has lots of services (bathrooms, showers, first aid stations). There is also a huge boardwalk area, so you can spend a whole day in the area. There are restaurants, shops, arcades, etc. If you get off the immediate beach area (go inland even 2-3 blocks), you will find more great restaurants and shops that are much less touristy and less expensive. It's a wonderful suburb to wander in. There's also Bondi, a separate suburb. In Bondi Beach, someplace close to the beach itself, is a place called Death By Chocolate - if you like chocolate, it's worth finding! I don't remember exactly where it is, but I'm sure people can stear you in the right direction. Bronte (pronounced like the authors): So pretty! Smaller than Bondi, and a better picnicy sort of area. Clean beach, lots of grassy areas. Not touristy like Bondi. Manly: Very similar to Bondi in that it's touristy and there is a lot to do. Great place for a half-full day if you want to combine swimming/tanning with other things without wasting travel time. The big differences: there is a nice (but expensive) aquarium there, and there are also a few amusement park rides where the ferry comes in. You can also combine a ferry ride over to Manly -- do a lot of tourist things at once! Leave a Comment Directions: There are 20+ beaches in the area. The beaches above and most others are on public transportation routes, usually buses. They can take up to 50 minutes from the city center. Manly is accessible by ferry. I would recommend taking the ferry.

Tamarama Beach ---------------------- Very small beach, but cute. I quite like it! There isn't much there, but I suggest you go as it's very unique with cliffs on both sides and the beach is quite narrow. Type = Ocean beach, quiet. Getting There = Walk along the beautiful coastal walk from Bondi Beach or from the city centre, get the train to Bondi Junction Railway Station, then take the 381 bus and get out at Fletcher St (ask the driver for assistance), and it's a 300 metre walk to the beach. Bronte Beach ----------------- One of my favourites, if not my favourite beach in the Eastern Suburbs. Beautiful trees along the beach, as well as a nice park and a handful of cafes. I strongly suggest a visit to this beach. You will understand why. Type = Surf. Salt-water bathing pools available. Cafes. Getting There = Get a train to Bondi Junction Railway station and board the 378 bus. Bus route 222 can take you from Bondi Beach to Bronte Beach too. Alternatively, you may walk south from Bondi or Tamarama Beach along the fantastic coastal walk. Clovelly Beach ------------------- This is another cute little beach, but it feels more like a gigantic pool than a beach! It's marvellous for families as it's very safe. There is a cafe but other services are limited. If you like to go snorkelling, this is the best and safest place in the eastern suburbs. Many people snorkel here and there are some nice fish to view too. Type = Calm. Snorkelling. Cafe. Getting There = From Bondi Junction Railway Station, get the 360 bus and stop at Clovelly Rd near Keith St. Then walk easterly for 300 meters. Or, get the 339 bus from the city centre and this takes you directly to the beach. From Bondi or Tamarama or Bronte beaches, take the beautiful coastal walk south until you get to Clovelly. Certainly not one of Sydney's most beautiful beaches, but being one of the most famous in the world it should rate a visit. The beach is approximately a kilometre in length and is patrolled by lifesavers who ensure that swimmers stay between the red & yellow flags - very important that travellers do this as many rescues are necessary every year due to lack of experience swimming at surf beaches. During the summer months Bondi Beach can be very crowded, but the water is clean and the sand is also cleaned every day. Bondi is a great place for people watching and there are some good cafes and restaurants along the beachfront. There are also many other activities all year round at Bondi Beach, many of them are centered around the Pavilion. Activities range from surfing competitions and kite flying to festivals, markets & galleries. From 17 December 2004, Bondi Beach and all other beaches in the Waverley Council precinct were deemed "Non Smoking" zones. Hurrah!! Leave a Comment Address: Campbell Parade, Bondi, Eastern Suburbs of SydneyDirections: Catch a 380 or L82 bus from the city or Bondi Junction railway station. Buses are frequent and will drop you right at the beach.Website: www.gobondi.com

Liz is a big beach girl and wanted to see Bondi. We hopped on a bus and went to Bondi Beach. The bus ride was easy and quick. We started our day lounging on the beach. The sand is super fine and soft. It was a bit windy in the morning but that didn't hamper the visit. Liz took a dip in the Pacific as I lounged on the beach. It was great to sit and watch the waves crash, the surfers and the people strolling by. The weather was beautiful and we had a fabulous day. Leave a Comment

Bondi Beach is very popular ~ the restaurants and cafes are a bit on the expensive side. The real reason to visit, however, is to enjoy the stretch of golden sand ~ whether you surf, swim, walk or just watch the activity. Our visit was in July, so there weren't many surfers still braving the weather. Leave a Comment

To fully understand the attraction of Sydney you have to go to the BEACH. Bondi is the most famous one, for sure not the most scenic in Sydney. But still it is a very good place to go and enjoy the sun, surf and sea. And you can easily continue on a rewarding walk along the coast to get to Tarramarra, Bronte, Clovelly or Coogee Beach south of Bondi. Leave a Comment Address: BondiDirections: Hop on 380 or 382 bus from Circular Quay (Stand E) going along Oxford Street and Bondi Juction to Bondi Beach
