Just a short stroll from the Star City Casino where we staying, there is so much to see and do in Darling Harbour. On a spectacular harbour setting, the precinct has many of Sydney's major tourist attractions, including the Sydney Aquarium, the Australian National Maritime Museum, Powerhouse Museum, IMAX Theatre and many more.

  • There are plenty of things to do for the whole family at Darling Harbour, with so many of Sydney’s attractions to choose from. There’s hands-on fun, fabulous worlds to explore and open areas to run free. Get up close to Australia’s extraordinary undersea creatures at Sydney Aquarium – Sydney’s #1 Attraction and one of the largest aquariums in the world. Catch a movie on the big screen at IMAX Theatre. Discover the history and the stories of the seas at the Australian National Maritime Museum. Visit the Powerhouse Museum – home to Australian history and culture. Take a walk on the wild side at Sydney’s newest attraction, Sydney Wildlife World. You’ll discover nine unique Australian habitats – from a spectacular rainforest to the iconic red centre – showcasing more than 6,000 of Australia’s furry, scaly, hairy and spiky creatures. For a change of pace, escape to a tranquil oasis in the heart of the city at the Chinese Garden of Friendship. Take a journey through the Chinese Garden of Friendship’s winding pathways and experience the serenity of its pavilions, lakes and waterfalls. Star City Casino also offers a range of activities. The Lyric Theatre has presented a wide range of leading local and international entertainment events since opening in 1997. Experience one of Sydney's finest international or local shows at the Star City - Star Theatre. All the main casino games like Blackjack, Craps, Baccarat, Sic Bo, Big Wheel, Roulette and Two Up are also available at Star City Casino. Take a cruise on Sydney Harbour, peddle a paddleboat, get a bird’s eye view from Sydney’s Monorail or just walk along the foreshore of Cockle Bay. Darling Harbour is a great place to simply take time out. Along with a program of fantastic free Sydney entertainment every week, Darling Harbour hosts seven free major annual events including the stunning Australia Day spectacular, the Latin American-inspired Fiesta, a Jazz Festival and the Hoopla acrobatic and street theatre festival.

Although I haven't been inside the gardens, I sure want to recommend a visit to it. The entrance to the gardens looks amazing already. Inside you can find peace and quiet and a big chinese temple. The gardens are also called the gardens of friendship, and was a gift from the sister city of Sydney, Guangdong. When I get back to Sydnet at the end of my year in Australia, I will visit it, and hopefully can tell you more about my experiences.

    Darling Harbour: The Chinese Garden.
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is also known as the Garden of Friendship and was built in 1987. The gardens design was a gift to Sydney from its Chinese sister city of Guangdong. There is a beautiful glazed Dragon Wall in the lower section of the garden with two dragons on it – one for Guangdong and one for New South Wales. In the centre of the wall is a carved pearl which represents prosperity. A lake covered with water lilies and lotus flowers is a lovely place to rest beside for a while. The whole garden is just a lovely cool place to wander through and rest a while. At Darling Harbour Open 9.30 until 5.30 monday to friday and 9.30 until 6 p.m. saturday and sunday.

    Darling Harbour: Darling Harbour
  • Tip Rating:
  • Darling Harbour is located on the western side of the city centre. It's farely built-up, but has many attractions to fill in a day without any problems. To get there, either walk west from the city-centre (or get out at Town Hall railway station and walk west down the hill either on Bathurst or Druitt Streets), or you can get a ferry from Circular Quay if you feel a little lazy and would like to sail underneath the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The main attractions are as follows: - Sydney Aquarium... very nice! - IMAX Theatre... gigantic movie screen - Chinese Gardens of Friendship - Australian Maritime Museum... dedicated to showing Australia's maritime history - Cockle Bay Wharf Bars and Restaurants - King Street Wharf Bars and Restaurants - Play area for children at the southern end of Darling Harbour Darling Harbour is also great at night if you don't have the time during the day. There are many bars and restaurants (the better ones on the eastern side of Daling Harbour) but don't expect standard Sydney prices as they are slightly inflated as most tourist areas are. Further afeild, about another 10 minute walk north-west of Darling Harbour, is the Sydney Casino. I am not a fan of many Casinos outside of Las Vegas, but if you must, you may visit the casino which is of course open 24 hour per day. There is a buffet restaurant there as well as numerous bars and sports bars to view live sports games.

Darling Harbour: Lots to see and do at Darling Harbour
  • Tip Rating:
  • I spent the first hours of my first day in Sydney here. Beautiful water fountains, parks, and attractions. There is also an IMAX theatre, a Chinese Garden, an aquarium, and a shopping area. I frequently returned to this location. Be sure to walk over the pedestrian bridge back into the city. 360 Tours: http://www.darlingharbour.com/content/Virt_tours01.cfm Map of Sydney Area: http://www.delsjourney.com/images/close-ups/oz/Map_of_Sydney_4.jpg
