Harbour Bridge / Anzac Bridge: The Harbour Bridge is perhaps...
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Harbour Bridge is perhaps Sydney's most famous land mark. The best way to see it from the water. I was fortunate enough to be in Sydney during the Olympic games. The bridge formed the center piece of the Olympic festivities. The harbour bridge displaying the 5 olympic rings will for me be one of the most enduring images of sydney.
The pylons at either side of the bridge actually form no purpose but were placed there to make the structure look a more secure! However they also form good viewing towers. One of the pylons has a small museum inside and the climb to the top is well worth it for some fantastic views of Sydney.

Harbour Bridge / Anzac Bridge: Sydney Harbour Bridge. ...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Sydney Harbour Bridge. Doesn't everywhere have some sort of bridge that you need to see?

Catch the ferry from Circular Quay to Manly for the day and take in a different view of both the Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.

This photo was taken 6 June 2001 and as as you can see, the fog has taken hold of the bridge! What you can see here is the very top of the bridge!
This is what Sydney is famous for (among other things)!

  • Pylon Lookout. If you’re climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge, you’ll be given a complimentary ticket for entrance to the Pylon. Climbing up inside the Pylon involves 200 steps. You’ll get by excellent views of the city, the ferry terminals of Circular Quay and beyond.

  • If you’re not suffering from Vertigo (I do .. shhh!), join the guided climb of the world famous Sydney Harbour Bridge! Though the price to climb is rather steep but you’ll be rewarded with splendid views from up here and an unforgettable experience – it’s worth the price and safe!

    Climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The bridge was completed in1932 and was an engineering triumph. Before the completion of the bridge the only links between the city centre on the south side of the harbour and the residential area on the north side were the ferry or a 20 kilometre road route which also involved five bridge crossings. The harbour bridge is a single span arch also known as the “Coathanger” It took 8 years to build and was made in sections. Maintenance of the bridge is an never ending task which uses 30,000 litres of paint for each coating.

Harbour Bridge / Anzac Bridge: Walk across (or for those who...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Walk across (or for those who are more daring and can afford it), walk over the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
There is a walking path next to the road on the bridge which you can walk across. You can pay a fee, get dressed in a pair of overalls and go with a group to walk up and over the bridge itself.
Well, if you go for the more adventurous option, I guess you can say it's not everyday that you climb a bridge! :-) Participants get dressed in grey overalls so that they blend in with the bridge (so as not to distract the drivers below). The group walks in single file and is chained to a line which they follow up and over the bridge. I guess being reasonably fit would be a pre-requisite for this activity! I haven't done this but have watched it from a much safer height! :-) I believe that this activity is very safe, I just have my own little problem with heights is all! ;-)

  • This is the second most recognized Sydney icon after the opera house -- on New Year's Eve 2000 the fireworks over this bridge looked great even on TV!

  • For more great views, the Sydney Harbour Bridge is a
very impressive site. One of the four supports has a
    viewing area at the top.
Since 1998, tours are now offered to the top of the
bridge. Information and bookings can found at

  • Tip Rating:
  • The other symbol is the Harbour Bridge aka Coathanger. They are in the same area which makes visiting them both at once very handy. This bridge opened in 1932. It has 8 traffic lanes, and trains share this bridge as well carrying passengers to and from the North Shore.
You can climb (YES, CLIMB) the bridge. (Don't worry, you are fully secured, of course) This is a chance to see Sydney at day or night time in an extraordinary way. It's a 12-persons group led by a professional trainer and you are required to wear their special designed suit. The top part of the arch is 130M from sea level. So this trip is not for the faint-hearted! And pray you have good weather.
