For one of the best views in the city, you need to get to the top of the Pylon Lookout, located in the South-Eastern Pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. For only A$8.30/adult (much less for children), you get to climb your way up the ~200 steps to the top of the pylon, where an observation platform is located. At this point you are about half way up the bridge's height, and the panoramic views of Sydney and the harbour are priceless. It is totally worth the money and should definitely be at the top of your to-do list in Sydney. If you are considering doing the Bridge Climb, you may want to skip that and just go to the lookout instead. You're at least half as high, if not more, things look almost as small, you can actually bring your camera with you (something you can't do on the Bridge Climb) and take as many photos as you like, and it costs over 20 times less. Inside the pylon and throughout the climb, there are also several displays about the history of the bridge and its construction, as well as the history of the pylon itself. Leave a Comment Directions: To get to the lookout, head North along the Eastern pedestrian pathway from the City. The entrance is in the side of the pylon.Website: http://www.pylonlookout.com.au/

No, l didnt do it, it was too cold wet and windy and l chickened out, but l regret it now ! this must be THE place for the ultimate view of Sydney, but forget taking pictures, you arent allowed to take your camera, though there is a camera up there so you`ll get a souvenier snap of the climb its quite safe, you wear a safety suit and harness and are given instruction before you start your climb, and its pretty busy up there, there are climbs every 20 minutes, and even night climbs on certain days Leave a Comment Address: 5 Cumberland Place, The RocksPhone: 02 8274 7777Website: www.bridgeclimb.com.au

What a neat concept!!! Had never thought of climbing a bridge before but when offered the chance I sprung for it. Arrived at the headquarters ahead of time as directed. Was given an orientation, and then directed to take off all jewelry, cameras, etc for storage in a personal locker. Then we were fitted for coveralls, and utility belts. The belts held a communicator and a safety snap. As we prepared to leave for the climb the door swung open and in staggered the latest group, moaning, groaning and screaming about their terrible ordeal!! All in jest we hoped. There were about 10 of us from all over the world and Australia and we were led by a young lady guide. We came to the foot of the bridge, climbed some stairs and then set off up the girder. Our safety snaps were fastened to a cable and we had to move the snaps along as we walked. The climb is gradual and when we reached the top the guidet took our pictures with the Opera House in the background. The view was spectacular and just as we summitted a flight of military transport planes zoomed over us. It seems there was a parade in town for the returning Peacekeepers from Timor. On the way down, I remember going down a flight of stairs and looking to my side and being eyeball to eyeball with the passengers in train cars as they passed over the bridge not three feet from my head. After crashing the door and moaning and groaning for the next group we disposed of our gear, collected our personals and then bought pictures and jumpers to commemorate the trip. The Climb had only been open for a few weeks and notables, who had already made the climb had their pictures posted. Leave a Comment Address: The Rocks, Sydney Harbour

 | | | | Harbour Bridge / Anzac Bridge: Bridge Climb is a Must. | Tip Rating: | | | | |
I have managed to do the climb to the peak of Sydney Harbour Bridge twice now, first time i done it it was a grey murky day, rare for Sydney. So i decided to do it again this time on a fab sunny day. Kitted out in funky grey all in one suit, you are taken on a 2 hour long(3 hours in total approx) journey to the top of the Bridge, stunning, stunning views. You are hooked up to your groups guide by means of a headset and he/she gives an ongoing commentary all the way. You never once feel unsafe because you are well secured to the Bridge by a harness the whole time. At the summit the guide takes photos of you or your group which are available for purchase at the end of the climb, these work out quite expensive but you gotta have them eh?? You do get a complimentary photo of your whole group but this is quite small in relation to the ones you pay extra for(the reason being i suppose is to encourage you to part with more cash and but the better ones). You also receive a certificate to mark your climb. Before commencing the climb you are given a breath test to ensure you have not consumed alcohol, so be warned, if you fail this your are not allowed to climb and i do not think you get a refund. Then you are taken through the safety aspects and given a quick guide as to how to use your harness, easy peasy. This is a first class attraction which cannot be missed really, very professional set up, just checked the current prices on their website and they seem to have increased them quite a bit since i climbed, current prices $160 mon-thurs, $185 fri-sun, and $225 for the twilight climbs. Add onto that the cost of your photos it works out quite expensive. Oh well, you gotta do it so just lash the whole lot onto your credit card and worry about it later!!! One last thing i would advise that you book in advance for this extremely popular attraction. The both times I have done it, i visited the base a week or so before and booked up in advance but i see you can actually book it online now, worth doing. I'm sure you all recognize. The Harbour Bridge is on the other side of Opera House although on the same harbour. People try their best to get the best photo shot of the bridge (up, down on different harbours). You can climb up to the top (center) of the bridge as well, but it will cost you a fortune (A$155-200!!!!). I thought it was A$20, then maybe, I'll give it a shot. One of a girl I met actually paid and tried. She started climbing up to only a quarter to the top, suddenly, someone got minor injury on his finger, and all of the sudden, the whole climb was cancelled!!!! The girl was asked to come back again next day to finish her climb, but well, she was leaving Sydney early morning on the next day. So, I guess her A$155 is gone! So, check weather, your fitness and .... oh...your luck before handing in the money. Oh forgot one thing, if you are thinking of taking pics of Opera House from the top of the bridge during your climb, think again! Your camera is not allowed up there. And, if you really want your climb memory in photo, A$20 a pop! Leave a Comment
