Kings Cross which was once called ‘Queen’s Cross’ in it’s origins, is made up of tree lined avenues, elegant terrace houses with Victorian iron lace and parks. and by harbourside parkland skirting the foreshores of Sydney Harbour.
There is quite a history to the Cross and the best way to discover its. secrets is to walk the streets. There are walking tours you can take and have all the explained to you. With a mixture of charm and sleeze, the cross is also a very lively and colourful place that never sleeps providing endless entertainment with nightclubs, bars. Every March the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras makes it's way along Oxford St.
My first recollection of the cross was on my 2nd trip to Sydney, sitting on the rooftop of MacDonalds having the 'activity' below explained to me :-)... I was fascinated. (that was in my innocent days of course).
Held on the first day of March.
One of the biggest gay parades in the world.
If you really want to see their parades you might want to bring some stands to be able to see from the back of the row. The streets get very crowded and you won't be able to see them unless you come very early and take good spot.
