Parks / National Parks / Gardens: Step 3 : Royal Botanical Gardens
  • Tip Rating:
  • After the domain is right next the the Royal Botanical gardens. The gardens are world famous and are truly lovely. Its a real pleasure to have a picnic in the gardens and enjoy the casual sydney way of life. On my tour i usually make my way around the Gradens permimeter and come to show of the hourbour. From here i follow the path around until i come to the Sydney Opera house. The walk if taken at a slow pace should take you about half an hour. You will be given many wonderful photo opportunities and pass such spots as "lady macquaries chair" amongst many other beautiful spots in our harbour.

Parks / National Parks / Gardens: Hyde Park
  • Tip Rating:
  • Almost everyday I used to walk through Hyde Park. It's quite a nice park with this big fountain. On sunny days the place is packed with people sunbathing or enjoying the shades under one of the many trees. If you get here in the evening walk quietly and you might see a couple of possums, or the odd shagging couple if you walk here very late, or should I say early?

When visiting the Opera House, hang a right and go for a walk along the harbour foreshore. The Botanical gardens spread down onto the foreshore and you can take lots of different paths up into them. This was where hubby got down on one knee and proposed to me many moons ago :-)

Parks / National Parks / Gardens: Royal Botanic Gardens
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Royal Botanic Gardens are a short walk around the water's edge from the Sydney Opera House. The gradens are located between the harbour and the CBD. There are great harbour views from up on the hill . There are large beautiful trees amongst the lush grass and it's a great place to grab a book and enjoy a sunny day. They open daily at 6.30am and close at sunset. Entry to the gardens is free.

  • Sydney is a very green city, so this little park may not seem like a huge additon to the landscape, but because of its Asian design, it makes a nice change of pace from the open spaces otherwise found around town. There is a small tea house on the premises, so sit down and enjoy the tranquility of this urban space.

Parks / National Parks / Gardens: fruit bats
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Botanic Gardens are to be found on the shoreline of the Harbour in the centre of the city. Not only does it offer great views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House, quiet respites from the traffic and freneticism of downtown Sydney, the understated grandeur of the former Government House, an insight into the natural flora of Australia, but you can also find the most extraordinary number of fruit bats in the trees around the shop/cafe. And at dusk, the sky is full!

Parks / National Parks / Gardens: Royal Botanical Gardens
  • Tip Rating:
  • The botanical gardens are a must visit if you're in Sydney. They're fairly extensive, and house numerous collections of flora from all over the world. The gardens are also very beautifully landscaped, with lots of cozy paths, ponds, islands, and streams criss-crossing every which way. You can easily spend hours exploring the grounds, looking at exotic plant (and even animal) species, including counting the large, yet very vegetarian, fruit bats resting in some of the trees above you. The gardens are also home to the Government House, a beautiful Gothic building which in the past used to be home to the Governor, and which is still occasionally used today for some events by the Governor. It is accessible to the public at other times, and I believe there is even a free tour that you can go on.

  • It's one of my favourite places to go and relax. Perfect for active leisure and full of romantic places for dates and picnics. There are some nice looking lakes and ponds where you can meet ducks, swans and other birds. In spring and summer it's full of flowers and looks even more beautiful. Summertime is full of interesting events, for example you can enjoy the moonlight cinema next to Woollahra Gates on Wednesday nights (screenings run from approximately 8.30, until 28 March).

Parks / National Parks / Gardens: Step 2: Speakers corner, the Domain
  • Tip Rating:
  • After the Art gallery i usually cross the road and either spend a little time in the domain. The domain is a large park we have where you can play football or just laze about for a while. On Sundays we have Speakers corner , similar to the one in Hyde park london where people get up and speak about various issues to anyone who wants to stop and listen. I ususally spend a few moments listening to the todays topic of interest.
