    This is a picture from the Heads, the way to the Harbour of Sydney, a very small one. Thats the reason that Sydney is late discovered, the sailors can not see that it is a natural entrance.

    Take a ferry ride out on to the harbour. We went on the Manly ferry, which is perhaps one of the more well known ones. This is how I took the photos of the bridge and opera house, so you can get pretty close this way!

  • See the harbour in all its' glory without paying the overpriced fees of the private tour operators all for the price of a Big Mac. Get off at Manly and take a stroll down the Corso. Grab some fish and cips and sit on or near the beach. As they say 30 mins from the city but a thousand miles from care.

  • Directions: Catch the ferry from Circular Quay in the city. Ask at the info desk which wharf it leaves from. For a faster trip you can take the high speed JetCat but this service doesn't work during choppy seas.

    Take a Harbour Cruise of Sydney. I recommend Captain Cook's. The boat is comfortable. The guide is excellent.

    Catch a ferry or the RiverCat, they take you to plenty of destinations, run frequently and are pretty cheap. You can get up the Parramatta River, past Homebush to Parramatta itself which is mainly a business area, but has plenty of restaurants and a good visitor centre. Good shopping centre with a great food mall of various types of food at inexpensive prices Circular Quay is a fantastic hub of ferries, Rail and the City

    Sydney Harbour really is beautiful. On a good day the water is a sparkling blue and there are many yachts on the harbour. Don't spend money on a cruise (unless you want historical information) as you can take a ferry for about $5.00 one way. I recommend catching the Manly ferry from circular quey.

    On Boxing day, is the departure of the Sydney Hobart race. It's an unbelievable sight !!! Thousands of boats in Sydney harbour, all sizes and shapes, escorting the departure of the race.

    You are unlikely to pay a visit to Sydney without visiting the world famous harbour but if by any chance you were thinking of missing it out - DON'T! The way to see sydney is definately from the water. Don't waste your time with expensive boat tours simply take one of the local ferries from Circular Quay. This is a simple and much cheaper way of seeing the sites.
