Sydney Opera House: The Quintessential Thing To Do
  • Tip Rating:
  • No trip to Sydney is complete without a trip to the Opera house. We took a guided tour of John Utzon's masterpiece. The tour left every 30 minutes and lasted for 1 hour. The tour went to the two main concert halls, plus one of the smaller theaters. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, and was able to answer all our questions. $26 per adult $23 per adult if booked online If you book online for an early tour (9 am, 9:30 am and 10 am), the price goes down to $16 There is also a box office right at the Opera House, so you can book operas and concerts for after the tour. There are 3 different operas a week plus plays and other events.

Sydney Opera House: Visit the Opera House
  • Tip Rating:
  • Visit the Opera House A wonderful building, with sensational design. I walked around and around and around in circles when I first saw it, the photographs simply don't do it justice. I know people who frequently go to the Opera and other such performances there - it's apparently wonderful. Do try to get tickets to see something there... you won't regret it.

  • Tip Rating:
  • There is a lot more to the Opera House than opera. Once you've taken this famous building's photography, enjoy a guided tour and performance before visiting one of the restaurants or retail outlets. The Sydney Opera House was designed by Danish Architect Joern Utzon and completed in 1973. Although called the Sydney Opera House it is really a performing arts centre with a Concert Hall, Opera Theatre, Drama Theatre Playhouse, The Studio, Reception Hall, a Library with archival material Dressing Rooms, Rehearsal Studios, Restaurants and Foyer Bars. Daily Tours departure point: Lower Concourse and begin approximately every 30 minutes and last for around 50 minutes. All tours are conducted in English. Souvenir colour brochures, printed in 8 different languages are also available.

  • Tip Rating:
  • wander round the outside of the wonderful Sydney Opera House. Unless you're going to see a show, the inside is much less exciting... If you want to see a show, you can find out what's on by visiting the Sydney Opera House website. Bear in mind that operas aren't on every month, so check in advance if you want to see one!

  • The Sydney Opera House, along with the Harbour Bridge, are two of the most visible icons of Sydney. Its design is controversial, but it is here to stay. You can walk around the building on a pleasant harborview plaza with great views of the northern shore of Sydney and bridge.

This is one of the most interesting buildings in the world. It was designed by Jorn Utzon of Copenhagen, Denmark, and the roof shells were inspired by palm trees. Construction began in 1959 and was completed in 1973. The grand opening featured Queen Elizabeth II. To really appreciate this building, you need to see it from as many angles as possible. See it from ontop of the bridge, then walk along the shore from the bridge to Mrs. Macquarie's Point (there is plenty to see along the way besides the Opera House), or a water taxi works well. It will also look very interesting when you get up close. It also looks amazing at night when it is lit up. If looking at it is not enough, you can try to book a show on the website.

    Sydney Opera House: Opera House

  • Sydney Opera House is probably one of the best known buildings of the 20th century. It was designed by the Dane Joern Utzon, who 1957 won the the competition for the design of the Sydney Opera House. His other works include the Kuwait National Assemly (1972) and the Bagsvaerd church complex (1975). In March 1959 the constructions began and was completed and officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 20 October 1973. The Opera House consist of a concert hall, opera house, a drama theatre and several restaurants.

    Sydney Opera House: Opera
  • Tip Rating:
  • I can't add anything to the hundreds of tips already on the Sydney Opera house that are on VT. It was impressive but it had a feeling of a cathederal rather than anything else. I was expecting to see nuns coming out singing The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Music. OK I know that's being something of a philestine but that was just an impression. It does not take from the fact that it was a fantastic auditorium and a very interesting tour. It was also an amazing expereince to stand in and outside this iconic landmark that is quentessentially Sydney and look across at the other iconic landmark of the harbour bridge. I tried to give a diffent view by taking this photo on one of the approach roads rather than from the water or of the whole of opera house. The open top tour buses stop here and you get a small glimpse of the opera house before rounding the corner to see the full thing.

9 sections of an orange. That is what the Sydney Opera House resembles. A prominent landmark that left every first timer in Sydney in awe. Designed by Jorn Utzon, a Danish architect in 1956 and built on the Sydney waterfront. Every morning we walked here for the creative energy and mood. Nobody leaves Sydney without being here.
