The Rocks and Circular Quay: The Rocks
The rocks is the oldest quaintest part of Sydney. Today it is unrecognisable from the squalid, overcowded and plague-ridden place it used to be. A nice part of town to do some window shopping, have a coffee. There is sometimes a flea market at the weekends. Also great views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House.

The Rocks and Circular Quay: A "Must Do" in Sydney
There is definitely something charming about The Rocks. Readily accessible by car, train, ferry or bus, this place and its cobbletone streets make you feel as though you are in London.

The view of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge is definitely something stunning.

All visitors should definitely try The Rocks Cafe and their sticky date pudding! It's big enough to be shared by 2, so bring a date or a friend and spend an afternoon just admiring the historical landmarks of Sydney Harbour.

This is the birthplace of modern-day Australia, nestled at the foot of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Captain Arthur Phillip settled here in 1788. The Rocks is a neighbourhood of winding streets, sandstone cottages and some of Sydney’s oldest pubs. This 19th century village is now a busy tourist enclave with cafés, restaurants, galleries, museums & souvenir shops.

Among the district’s historic buildings are the Hero of Waterloo inn (built over a tunnel that was originally used for smuggling), the Sydney Observatory (on the site of the colony’s first windmill), Cadman’s Cottage (Sydney’s oldest building, built in 1816) and Susannah Place (a museum of working-class life). Other attractions include the Museum of Contemporary Art and The Rocks Toy Museum.

The photo on the left is a view of the historic Rocks district @ Campbells Cove where a row of disused warehouses have been converted into restaurants.

The Rocks and Circular Quay: The Circular Quay
This is the departure point for both the city ferry system and also numerous private cruise companies. This lively hub of tourist activity with streets performer, souvenir shops and cafes.

We saw this guy jamming it up so we decided to chill out for a while here and soak in the atmosphere.

I'm a guy and it's against the guy code to enjoy shopping so I couldn't tell you much about the shopping stores here, hehe.

The Rocks and Circular Quay: Step back in time.....
Traditionally the home of the Aboriginal Cadigal people, the rocky sandstone ledge known as The Rocks is where mariners of the First Fleet stepped ashore on 26 January 1788 and British settlement of Australia was first established.

Today it is Sydney's historic old town quarter, nestled between the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House. Discover the stories behind its charming cobblestone lane ways and historic buildings on an entertaining walking tour or simply wander about and experience a precinct steeped in history.

Great shopping, some of Sydney's finest food and magical harbour views make The Rocks a unique destination not to be missed.

The Rocks and Circular Quay: Tour the Rocks
We took a tour of the Rocks to learn the real history in all its splendor...uh I mean its sordid history :) We booked the tour at the visitor's center.

The tour lasted about 90 minutes and gave us a lot of details about the rocks that we would not have known. It made the sordid history come to life. It was interesting to learn that the slums were just below a really rich neigbourhood, and that the government took over the whole neighbourhood in the early 1900s and no one owns any property there. This tour includes Cadman's cottage.

A definite must in my book!
