    The Rocks is the place where the first convict ships landed in Australia. This is supposed to be the first building. It used to be shameful to admit that your forebearers were common English criminals, but now it's considered very chic to be 'First Fleet'. I have a good friend down in Canberra who is 'FF' on BOTH sides of the family! He looks fine to me:)

    There are some wonderful old buildings here. The trendy restaurant scene was just developing when I was there in '95, but this is the place to go for nice bars and good food!

  • The 'Rocks' district is a must-see! Plenty of things to see and do. Shops and Pubs...even a 'Pokie' or two! The Rocks district is like going back in time to the early days. Narrow streets, exposed brick interiors give it that unique flavor. On weekends, the street is converted into a full blown flea market.

    Generally you when you visit a dwelling from a previous time, it is the home of someone of upper class background. This is interesting as it shows how working class stiffs had it in Sydney in the 1800's.

    One funny thing we found in the Rocks (oldest part of Sydney) was a little photoshop in a small shopping mall. There you could get some photographs of you, looking like those from the 19.th century. The price should be around 30 A$. Pretty ok for such a fun. :o)

    The Rocks The Rocks is the oldest part of Sydney and the most historical. This was the location of Sydney's first buildings and has been fully restored. The Rocks know offers some great shops, restaurant and pubs. Begin located next to the Harbour Bridge offers some unique views of the bridge, so bring your camera!.
