Sydney Aquarium, Darling Harbour, takes you on a tour of the seas and oceans surrounding Australia's vast coastline and the rivers, waterways, estuaries and swamps of our large and diverse yet dry land mass. Situated in Darling Harbour the aquarium houses over 11,000 animals from over 630 species of Australian fish, reptiles and mammals that have an affinity with water. Joined by near to 60 metres of underwater tunnels, the Sydney Aquarium presents the animals according to the regions in which they can be found in the waters around and within Australia: Southern Rivers; Northern Rivers; Southern Ocean; Northern Ocean. Six million litres of water house this varied and colourful exhibit. See these animals upclose, as they swim about in their "near to natural" environments and observe them as they look back at you and as you wonder about them, they're probably doing the same of you. Captain Nero has nothing on this! Directions: Take a train to Town Hall, 15-minute walk from station to Darling Harbour; or, A ferry from Circular Quay and alight almost near the front entrance in Darling HarbourWebsite: http://www.symbiozoo.com.au

The Zoo is one of the major tourist attractions in Sydney. The best way to get there is by ferry from Circular Quay. Once you arrive at the ferry landing on Mosma, take the tram up to the Zoo. You get a bird's eye view of the park and of Sydney Harbor. I must say I was a bit disappointed with the Zoo. It was undergoing major restoration/construction and many of the exhibits and animals were not available for viewing. We were lucky enough to meet a travel writer who was staying at our hotel who gave us free passes to visit the Zoo. The free passes made up for any dissappointment as the entrance to the Zoo is a bit on the pricey side. We did enjoy what little animals there were to see. One of the reasons why I wanted to visit the zoo was to see the koalas and kangaroos. You are allowed to be photographed with the koalas but you are not allowed to touch them. This particular Koala had a joey in her pouch. The koala area is located upon entering the park. Make sure to take in one of the many bird and seal shows given throughout the day. Showtimes are posted along the park and can also indicated on the park map. Leave a Comment Address: Bradley's Head Road, MosmanPhone: 9969 2777Directions: Open daily from 9-5. Purchase the Zoo Pass which includes return ferry ticket from Circular Quay, admission and Sky Safari ride.Website: www.zoo.nsw.gov.au

Sydney from the zoo by ShelleyKeating Taronga Zoo is the biggest zoo i've been to and the most impressive- for it's location alone. It is an excellent thing to do if you are in Sydney for a short time because you see so much of it- you can take a Sydney Ferry from Circular Quay (10$ return adult) which gives you great views of Sydney harbour. When you arrive at the zoo you can either take a bus to the top or the cable car, which i recommend . The cable car gives more excellent views of Sydney and takes you over some animal enclosures like the orang-utans. The zoo is on a hill and most people chose to catch the cable car up and walk down. There are animal shows, koala encounters, and my favourite- tigers! The zoo takes part in many breeding and rehabilitation programs and often there are baby animals around- like recently there were 3 new snow leopards (sooo cute). It is open every day of the year, 9am-5pm. Well worth it! Leave a Comment Address: Bradleys Head Road, Mosman NSW 2088Phone: +612 9969 2777Website: www.zoo.nsw.gov.au

Got any eucalyptus, mate?? by pchamlis There are quite a few wildlife parks in and around Sydney, but many people say that you should visit Featherdale if you have time for only one. It's a small park, but the animals are in good health, and you can get really up close to them. In some cases, you have the opportunity for "hands on" encounters, especially with the kangaroos and wallabies. The park is located in a suburban area of Sydney called Doonside. You can reach easily via twice-daily hotel pickup bus tours. (Call Featherdale for info) You can also take the City rail to Blacktown, and the bus 725 to the park. Car directions are below. We did it the easy way...... my mate Aussiedoug gave us a ride. by RedEaredPanda Taronga Zoo is the nation's leading zoological garden, featuring Australia's finest collection of native animals and a diverse collection of exotic species. What makes Taronga something special is its location at Bradley's Head, Mosman. The zoo is situated on elevated land along the waterfront, in one of the most beautiful vantage points on Sydney Harbour. As you zigzag your way up along the paths among the animal enclosures, you are able to enjoy magnificent harbour views. Although you can drive to the zoo, most visitors prefer to go there by ferry - a 12-minute ferry ride from Wharf 2, Circular Quay. The Taronga Zoo has its own jetty and you are able step off the boat and walk directly into the zoo. The Zoo offers special pre-booked tours and educational talks. Feed the giraffes at Taronga Zoo by AmazingAdventures I admit I am not a zoo expert, but this seems like a pretty good one to me. Not only does it have a huge variety of animals, it has one of the best views of Sydney. Take a friend or take the family, this is a nice way to spend a day in Sydney for tourists and locals alike. Kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, native birds, assorted marsupials, reptiles, crocs are all here as well as lions, tigers and bears! You'll also see rhinos. apes, monkeys, elephants and for a few $ you can feed the giraffes and get a photo with them too! There is no shortage of options for lunch or a snack, if you plan ahead you can bring a lunch with you and enjoy the many areas to have a bite to eat. There's also at least one big gift shop with a big variety of goodies or souvenirs. For the best value, make a whole day of it! Leave a Comment Directions: Take the ferry from Circular Quay across Sydney Harbour, enjoy the view of the Opera House from the ferry. In just less than 15 minutes, you'll be at the Taronga Zoo jetty. You can catch the SKY SAFARI up to the zoo entrance, what a view! Watching fish swim by. by Mairo21 I was never a fan of aquariums, but I am glad I didn't let this one pass me by. It is one of the best aquariums I have seen yet. Very informative, and lots of different types of sea animals and fish. Over 11,000 animals from 650 species to be precise. I could have spent hours sitting in front of the huge glass windows, watching the fish swim by. Leave a Comment
