It is perfect for visitors who are interested in Australian animals and their environment. Taronga Zoo has about 340 species and over 2600 individual animals.
It is located along the waterfront, in one of the most beautiful points on Sydney Harbour overlooking Sydney Cove, the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.
It's truly the best zoo I have ever been to. You can get FREE ANIMAL PRESENTATIONS AND SHOWS like Free Flight Bird Show, Seal Show...You also get to see kangaroos and wallabies, with the opportunity to hand feed them

Whilst not the cheapest thing to do ( at around 32 $ per adult) it is the most spectacular location for a zoo and there are certainly plenty of animals to look at and you will get a lot of exercise walking around. I've been to the zoo many times but had never been to a bird show ( which is fantastic & very hands on) which I would definitely recommend. Now that the elephants are there it would be worth going as their enclosure alone was quite a sight. The new aquarium enclosure will be wonderful when finished, but if merecats, pigmy hippos, lions & leopard pups don't excite you then nothing will!! If you're a zooo lover - try a tax deductable zoo friends sponsorship which allows free entry for two people for an entire year and you actually know that you are helping to feed whichever kind of animal it is you love , i.e. spider monkey!

Interesting.....
It appeared that a lot of the animals had been rescued for the wild and that is why they were in the zoo. I heard a story on the radio in 2004 I think about the shark tank glass breaking here and the sharks and all the water spilling onto about seven patrons of the aquarium. It was interesting because they had so many native species, but I might venture to say that it was a little odd. We were there in the beginning of Australia's winter, so that may have had something to with it.

I was reminded by the movie Finding Nemo when I visited the Sydney Aquarium, as most of the aqua life I saw there were featured in the movie.
This aquarium has a great variety of Australian marine life; from sharks and rays to seals and platypus.
It has the typical underwater tunnel thingy, but also some informative exhibitions that won’t bore you.

One of the first place I visited in a touristy whim was Sydney Zoo. On this day I took the ferry from Circular Quay and as I was a tourist, it had to be the one with commentry tour of the harbour. The lady spoke mostly about all the famous people living around the harbour and how much the houses cost so you could say it was more like a real estate tour :)
When I got to the Zoo I was told there was special discount day, it was just $10 to enter! I took a cable car up to the Zoo and had a look around. It is in a spectacular setting with the Harbour Bridge and Opera house as a backdrop.
And then I came across a Condor - yes a 5 month old Condor that was the first one successfully bred in the Zoo since 1975! It was huge and was allowed in an open place as it couldn't fly yet - although it tried!! 3 nice zoo keepers kept it away from the punters but it did get close to a little child, it would have ate him!

Alot of zoos in Australia won't let you touch a Koala or have your photo taken with one.
At the Featherdale Wildlife Park, you can do both.
You can also hand feed Kangaroos, Wallabies and Emus.
There are tour operators that have special tours to this park from Sydney's CBD.
But you can drive there if you wanted to.

Sydney Aquarium is a must-see, and one of the best things to do in Sydney. Walk under water and explore Australia's rich and diverse aquatic life and habitats. A trip to Sydney Aquarium is fantastic fun for kids, family and friends.

Another Sydney’s family vacation package; No matter if you’re an adult or a kid, Taronga is worth visiting.
As you know Ozzy has very unique animals, which could be found nowhere else in the world like the Koalas, Wombats, Tasmanian Devils, Kiwi Birds and many more. Buy a *Taronga Zoo Pass* at the Circulay Quay and take the yellow / green ferry enjoy the wide-angular view of the CBD, this is maybe the only way to see the Opera House, Habor Bridge and the Sydney Tower at the same time.
I recommend coming here on Wednesday or Thursday, it’s the least crowded (no children bugging all around you) but some shows maybe canceled if there’re not enough audiences. My favorite thing to do is watching the Chimpanzee family, I just sat there for over 2 hours, they’re so like humans.
